ok, this is our last official Dave's party type thing, before we head out of Korea.

There are TONS of threads/posts for Songtan, for those who haven't been, but here are the highlights of this weekends festivities:

The planned hotel, the Youngchon, has a rooftop swimming pool - western style, with lounge chairs & BBQ pits. It stays open til midnight each night. There is also a large garden-type room, 1 floor up, with a huge kitchen setup.

Rooms are nice, many with jacuzzi tubs. Try to get a res on 6th or 7th floor.

http://www.youngchon.com/en/index.html

There ARE cheaper hotel options in the area - the Sun isnt too far away, and i think a room is 30k or 35k for a night. The Victoria is another nice option.

Tons of cheap bars (most with dart boards and/or pool tables); lots of restaurants (Thai, Indian, Mexican, Japanese, even a Southern-style catfish place), good shopping. VERY easy to navigate.

And also, it is on the subway line (Songtan Station), and costs just 2000 from the station to the main area. We have held Dave's parties and other get-togethers there before. Christina is also willing to take girls over to her favorite manicure/pedicure place, or to one of the bathhouse/saunas for those gals who have wanted to go, but have been scared to try.

Any questions/comments, please post them up. We'll help out as best as we can.

Hope to see you all this weekend, and lets keep fingers crossed for good poolside weather!

Glen & Christina

hmmm - for those making reservations, say you are part of the 'Dave's group,' and we will try to arrange discounts for you all, as well (getting the military-equivalent rate, which is what we get). The rooms are big, and people can split rooms easily enough - we often have 3 in ours, between the 2 beds.

Yep - we will arrive around noon on Friday, to maximize the pool time & so we can take care of other stuff.

Sat morn, breakfast buffet @ the YoungChon (le booo on Burger King having closed). The rest of that day is free, and when we expect most people to be there.

There are bars that will stay open as late as we want, depending on what people want to do. And lots of choices for lunch & dinner.

Sunday morn, breakfast again, if we can manage - but more likely something brunchish or lunchish. Head out sometime Sunday afternoon.

Dinner, for some, will be at the Mexican restaurant (2nd floor)...sorry, I've blanked on the name.

We'll get everyone's cell numbers so as to be sure we meet up/can find each other if we disperse for dinner.

I made reservations today, but when trying "Dave's Group" they were clueless. I did, however, throw the OP's real name and all was kosher.... just an fyi, y'all.

ok, the OECD stuff seems about done, so back on track for the weekend!

yes - for YoungChon, or Victoria, just say 'Glen & Christina's group,' and you will get the DC rate.

Casa is really, REALLY great Mexican food (for 1/2 way around the world), but I am drawing a blank on a Thai restaurant in a hotel??? Sure you aren't thinking Chang Phwuck???

We don't expect everyone will want to do every meal together there are more than enough 'good' restaurants to fill a couple of weekends without revisiting a place twice. Same can be said for the bars, as well.

G.

Oh - if anyone has wanted to look into PSP/Xbox, etc. mods, there is a really good shop in town - may be worth the look for those not close to Yongsan area.

we have gotten in a couple of PM messages about 'what if the weather tanks???'

As of now, Fri should be ok, Sat *is* calling for rain most of the day, and Sunday ok again. So, not sure what to say -

If the weather is bad-bad, probably the 2 best choices would be 1) take over someplace like the Dragon Club - 2 pool tables, several dart boards, air hockey, foosball, small dance floor, cheap drinks, large movie screen (with DVD releases right downstairs).

or

2) just use the large Young-Chon garden room area & take it over instead, cooking, making drinks, etc. there.

Again, we should be there late morn/early afternoon on Fri, and will be there til mid-afternoon on Sunday. Any questions, just post them up or call us.

Yes...should the weather go bad we could stay put in most places. Also, since everything in the Songtan strip is so close to each other I don't see a problem. I mean it's a very short walk anywhere and with an umbrella --- we're set.

See you on the Summer Solstice!

Le wewt!

We got a ton of stuff done today; have some errands in the early/mid-morn, but should roll in about 12 or 1~ish.

If you are staying at the Y-C, try to get up on the 6th or 7th floor - and be sure to mention Glen & Christina OR Dave's Cafe for the DC rate.

The Fri. afternoon plans depend on weather - either pool (we are bringing BBQ stuff & the last of our bar stock with us), or USA Nails-style pampering & some drinks.

See you all there!

G & C
