hi,

i was wondering whether any of you have ever been to Yeongju. I might be accepting a job there and was wondering what life is like in Yeongju.

What is there to do after 9pm?

Don't know a great deal about the nightlife there, though. If you find any, let us know. Smile

I went there once...it is very old and countryfied...

If you have lived in korea before, can speak some Korean and into the slower side of life it might be good...

If you haven't ever lived here and can't speak any korean you could have some problems as western conviniences(and perhaps some decent english conversation) are a long way away.......
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who hasn't been to korea before...

Should also add that there are about 8-9 english hagwons in that town, and about 8 middle schools in the area. So I'd count on at least seeing 10-15 foreigners there, assuming that not all schools employ foreign teachers at this point and maybe some hagwons have enough students to warrant two teachers. I've taught in a town that same size. Like most small town expat communities, the foreign community there likely hangs out at a pub or hof downtown and frequents a pizza or chicken place a lot. You're also not in bad position for weekends. Gangwon-do is in your backyard and you're about an hour and two hours away from Daegu and Seoul, respectively. Your lifestyle can easily save money throughout the week and do hobbies like local sight-seeing, taekwondo, exercise, language study, etc...And then hit the big cities on the weekend.

thanx again everyone Smile

-just because - no, i don't speak any Korean, nor have I ever been to Korea. But from what ppl have to say about Yeongju, (and of course from researching about it), i think i'll like it. I was looking for a smaller, more traditional city/town set in a more natural enviroment (mountains), away from pollution, traffic, and millions of ppl, As to western stores, i've heard that there is a western store being build there at the present time...

-djsmnc- lol, good for u.. Wink

-chronicpride-thanx for all that info Razz . I'll definately be sightseeing, checking out all the festivals, hiking, and all that...i'm really looking forward to my stay...there is just one thing, but i'm not sure i'll be able to find it there...kyokushin karate...? actually i'll start a need thread about this...hopefully someone will help me locate a dojo...

thanx everyone, I think i have found my match in Yeongju Very Happy ...
