Hi there,
I am thinking that if I hang around for summer then I will definitely need some form of airconditioning in my apartment. I've done 3 years in different apartments without it, and they were all hell.
I know nothing at all about airconditioning, so any constructive advice will be much appreciated.

Anyway, do airconditioning units always need some kind of a pipe that goes through the wall/window to the outside? Or can they be somehow self-contained, with no need for creating a hole in the apartment?
Do they need to be fixed permanently somewhere, or is it possible to get moveable ones.

A guy I used to know said he had one that was an airconditioner in summer, and a heater in winter, and it was a boxy shape unit on wheels, that he could put in whichever room he wanted at the time. He had to empty a container of water out of it from time to time. Was that an airconditioner, or just a dehumidifier?

I'd only want it pretty much for my bedroom so I could get a decent night's sleep, don't care too much about the rest of the apartment.

Any good/bad brands or models, or websites/places to go looking?

Thanks very much.

Air conditioners produce condensation and I have seen portable units in the past. My plan is to watch EMart, Homeplus etc. as the hot season approaches and hope to pick one up for a couple hundred thousand. I'm taking off at the end of August, but because I have such an irrational fear of the fan death I'll prolly spring for an a/c unit for the summer.
