A couple of Qs - many thanks in advance for any help.

How long does the KTX take from Mokpo to Seoul?

Is it usually possible to walk into Mokpo Yok and get on the next KTX to Seoul? Is the train service a lot busier on Saturdays? - Also, we'll be travelling on Easter Saturday (April 7th) - is there a public holiday in Korea for Easter?

Pip pip!

you might be suprised that on weekends the trains may be full, used to travel from songjeong-ri (on the western outskirts of Gwangju) to Seoul and on Sat the trains used to be full. best bet is to book a couple of days out

If you have 3 or four people going, make sure to book the "Family Ticket Set." You get four seats and a table in the middle for less than $100. It's cheaper than three tickets. You can put as many people as can fit in the booth, but 4 is my limit for that. I've seen some Koren families with six, but that's too much.

Is "Family Ticket Set" what they call it in Korean? Can you book that online (at least on the Korean site)?

I don't know what it's called in Korean, and I don't know if you can book it online. I just know that if I go to the train station and say "family ticket set" I get it. Laughing

If you intend on using the KTX service, it's definitely a good idea to sign up as a member. You get a pretty good discount (maybe 5-15%) when you're a member.

As far as availability, there are generally plenty of seats except during holidays. Also, you might want to check if there is a KTX from Mokpo to Yongsan. I know there's a KTX from Yongsan to Mokpo. That might be another option.

Oh yeah...

I just assumed that you were talking about Yongsan Station to Mokpo... There is no train from Seoul Station to Mokpo that I know of.

Saturday and Sunday the trains are often sold out so i would book ahead...

It is very easy, just go to the train station and do it a couple of days before....

I just caught the KTX(to Busan granted) last Sunday night and it was full, not a spare seat to be seen....
