I don't usually care for Korean comedy shows, but once in a while it gives me ideas for teaching English in my class.

Like that comedy show where two couples have to memorize a skit and if they make a mistake then "NG!" pops up and tin plates come crashing onto their heads. My first thought was, "What in the world?!"

Then lately I tried doing something like that in my class. I took a small conversation piece from my English Time and had students act it out. Then the rest of the class listens for mistakes. I hand two students with plush, stuffed balls. If the "actors" make a mistake and the class catches it, then everyone shouts "NG!" and a ball gets thrown at'em. Then the actors are given the balls and a new pair gives it a try.

They are just eat'n it up and it's gone a long way to motivate and improve their speaking/listening.

Another example I've taken from those shows is that "De-be-de-be-deep" hand gesturing game and that "Catch-the-mouse" (English version in my class). I can't stand the show or the games, but if it gets the students motivated!

Ah, the sacrifices I make for my students...

I do the same thing in my class but we use plastic hammers that squeak. Great fun!
