Holy crap! Two weeks! Be really careful. Pink eye is one of the most contagious common diseases. I'm sure you caught it from one of your kids. When you get better, I would wash all your sheets and towels in hot water (if you can ) and/or bleach.

Also, a trick my grandma taught me for pinkeye--when you wake up in teh morning with your eyes all crudded over, put a hot washcloth on them. Feels really good and helps loosen the crud.

Yes it is highly contagious. Last time it appeared in my school all those infected were confined to the nurse's room.

If you are a public school teacher you are entitled to up to 15 days of sick leave and only if you re absent for more than 7 days do you need a doctor's note, that's what my contract says anyway.

If you are at a hagwon maybe you get 3 days?

I had it a month ago and just kept teaching. It went away after a few days. My eyes felt huge, itchy, dry, and pink.

If your school decides to be pricks about the time you need to stop working, then go to school, give it to all the kids, and you won't have to work anyway.

Koreans seems to bring pink eye on themselves:

1) One hand towel in the washroom, shared by all.

2) Korean women seem to have no problem using the sample eye makeup right on their eyes.

All I can say is some women must think I am a snob, because I refuse to use any samples, like lipstick, eye shadow, face cream, etc. Can you say bacteria and infections/viruses???

Oh yes, cold water and nothing to dry your hands on is the typical norm, but when you go to an expensive restaurant like Outback Steakhouse, you get the most high tech and the best I have ever seen in hand sanitation. Funny things happen in funny places like this.

I work pink eyed, runny nosed, coughing, flu, colds, walking zombified, hung over, and what ever else discomforting happens. I am expected to work no matter what, becuase we have no pool of substitute teachers to fill in here. Not to sound harsh or critisizing, it's just rough when it comes to sick time and going to the doctor. I only get to go to doctor during lunch break, after work, or Saturday morning regardless of condition, unless I was really dying and literally failing.

I have pink eye right now. I didn't teach today but I did plan all my classes for the subs then went home. I will be teaching tomorrow though. From what I understand once you start taking medicine for it you stop being contagious. I started my meds this morning after a trip to the doctor. He did say that if it doesn't get better soon to go to an eye doctor to get checked again.

I taught when I had pinkeye... I couldn't even open up my eyes in the morning because they were so stuck together. It hurt, I could feel the gunk under my eyes while they were closed at night.

Use a warm cloth over your eyes to loosen the gunk, don't touch or rub your eyes, clean the gunk with a q-tip instead of a finger while you're at school, and use ice packs to help bring down the swelling.

You can do it!

P.S. Bring a bottle of Dettol liquid handsoap to the bathroom with you! It works like a charm.

It's painful but if you're taking the right medication you'll be ok.

Go to work.

Plus, make sure you give it to all of the Korean teachers, staff, and above all- the boss. Spend LOTS of quality time with the boss, rub-rub-rubbing those eyes. Demand meetings to go over EVERYTHING.
If you happen to see any parents, run up to them and SHOW them the pink eye.

Above all-Smile all the while. Wink
