Did you know that when Koreans drink, sing, watch movies, use cell phones, and put on make up to relieve stress that they are acutally "showing the fighting Korean spirit" Laughing Laughing

To be truthful though, I'd starting to like the host of "Rank". You can tell he has troubles believing half the crap they make him say.

I saw that episode. It was describing the positive effects of drinking alcohol to relieve stress. Imagine, this channel, supposedly the representative of "Korea" around the world, is spouting the benefits of getting pissed. It was number 3 on their list, behind shopping and going to a singing room. Way to promote alcoholism! I swear, the people running that channel have been on propaganda-auto pilot for years.

Arirang is a bad propaganda channel with a kimchi fetish. The Cross-world politicians programs are hilarious. A third-generation Russian-Korean is somehow representing Korea in the Duma. Yeah whatever, you crazy bastards.

My #1 favorite thing about Arirang is when they do those feel good segments about zanny things people do in other countries, and they add subtitles in English, even though the guy being interviewed is speaking in English. Usually ,what the guy is saying and what the subtitles say aren't even close to being the same. It's such a joke. The guy says something like "I enjoyed trying this food." and the subtitles say "This is the number one car in our country." WTF We can clearly hear the guy saying something completly different. Why didn't they just write what he said? People can tell you idiots.

I was watching this last night and they were talking about how the spicy food relieves their stress. Honestly, have I just not eaten much here or or am I just such a man that the spices don't effect me?
Also, there was some statement from a wiegook about how Koreans can drink us (non Koreans) under the table... what is this dribble that they are showing?

Seems Arirang is well-watched, particularly by those who just can't get their hate on another way.

Here's a tip: Turn off the TV or change the channel.

Foreigners in Korea and the outside world. That's their purported target audience. But as I pondered on another recent Arirang thread (also started by Newbie?), the real target audience often seems in fact to be Koreans in Korea. It's a grand, monumental undertaking, like the month-long Arirang Festival in Pyongyang, that too put on at great expense to demonstrate to the outside world Korea's awesomeness. But to many foreigners, it can feel like we're watching a group of monks chanting mantras. We have no part in this, it doesn't pertain to us, and even our presence as spectators is not necessary -- they'd be chanting whether we're watching or not.

Besides bored, masochistic ex-pats, Korean media bureaucrats, and the parents of the announcers? Not many, I reckon. Well, people overseas who are planning to visit/live/work in Korea. I would imagine Arirang TV goes over a lot better with foreigners who aren't overly clever, jaded, cynical or Western.

T'was me. I have a major Arirang fetish these days. It's always good for a laugh.

SE Asians. Those lesser peoples down there have to put up with the propaganda in order to get all the Korean dramas they just eat up. It really makes me wonder how awful indigenous SE Asian TV must be.

I used to think it was a propaganda channel, like an infomercial playing on a loop extolling the virtues of Korea, but then I saw some of their reports on other countries and they do the same thing. They put a positive spin on everything, as if they were possessed by Ned Flanders. If they were doing a segment on suicide bombers in Sri Lanka, they'd be talking about how skilfully made the bombs are. As a TV channel, it's utter rubbish.

Everything is positive until the programs on the USA or the FTA.

Peace
