So I was just watching a KBS something or other TV show. It was your typical fanfare of some Korean guy living in the states...talking about his daily life. In it he says (and this is a translation from the ol' lady) "foreigners here can't stand the smell of kimchi and things of that nature. Next they show him in a public park with a bunch of americans...and the narrator goes on about "weiguk saram deul" and their activities in the park. So my point is...why does the guy and the KBS narrator talk about americans in their OWN country being foreigners. I've never heard that in other places I've been......Would something like this ever be on canadian TV....."So now our canadian hero is sandwiched in with the american foreigners in downtown Chicago....lets pray that he can continue to live with this unknown sub-species of mankind..."

As long as he smells like kimchi he'll be fine. Laughing

When I go home to America I'm going to wear a t-shirt that reads "I'm not a foreigner!" Cool

As far as I know that glitch stems from "waygook" not being a precise translation of foreigner (person from a differnt country) but rather person of a different race. Now, if he said "waygook nara saram" then that would be weird

Yeah I recall that. They were in China, had to find a restaurant to eat something then later scale a wall to reach the pitstop. I laughed hard when the guy said that. What a way to think!

I remember being in the USA at a Welcome Center. A bunch of Chinese teenagers had just arrived. They were in the bathroom in a queue.

One of the loud chinese lads mocked an American using the urinal. Once again, using that famous "waiguoren" word.

Speaking Chinese, I said to the lad, "Silly boy. He is not the foreigner here, you are."

The whole group of Chinese Lads just exploded in laughter and excitement. It is not purposeful or vicious mentality. It is just the way they think.

Fairly funny when they get caught on it though.

Happens to Americans too. I've seen Americans go to other countries and say "Why can't these foreigners speak American."

Yes, sad but true.

Just last night in Japan I caught The Amazing Race. Two pricks asking to themselves why they should pay the goddamn korean taxi driver who didn't even speak English. "I dont know why we should pay you, you dont even speak English." Shocked

Yep, it REALLY bugs me here when foreigners (us) get huffy when people here don't speak English. It's like it's our god-given right. People in the U.S. get really upset if "foreigners" (or anyone with dark skin) don't speak English ("What are they doing here if they can't even learn the language?"), yet we are rarely faulted here for not bothering to learn Korean.

Yesterday you said Asians are retards. Today you said foreigners are retards...who are the retards again? Perhaps it's relative. Maybe everyone is normal and you're just a big fuktard Smile

Youare all wrong. When a Korean is in America everyone else is a waegook.

Waegook means non-Korean. Perhaps if you morons (princess) learnt a bit of basic Korean you wouldn't look like such an a$$ at Dave's. If you look like an a$$ in front of your fellow foreigners...you must look like a gigantic retard in front of Koreans.

Some things are not translated easily. You'd think you people whould know...being teachers and all.
