So it's now a good 2 weeks since Christmas ended and in my area I haven't seen one business pull down their Christmas decorations yet.
Actually I remember seeing Christmas decorations at Gimpo airport in March!!
When I was in Japan last Christmas I remember all the decorations at shops and hotels, coming down the very next day after Christmas.
What's the longest you've seen Christmas decorations up in Korea?
Why is it Koreans can't be bothered pulling them down?
I think this illustrates the difference between Japan and Korea.
Japan is super efficient, and Korea... well Korea is Korea. |

I don't remember seeing Christmas decorations anywhere this holiday. There are a lot of Christians in my building and they celebrate by going to church on December 25 at 4:30am and staying all day. No trees, no lights, no gifts. |

Today, I noticed the big grocery store just southeast of Gangdong station still has their Christmas tree standing proudly. It's the store whose evening shift laughs when I have a beard and makes me wait to be the last customer rang up no matter what.
Maybe they're just celebrating the lousy customer service Joseph got at the inn in Bethlehem.
I walked home to Gangdong from Hooters in Apgujeong a couple of weekends ago since the subway was closed and noticed some decorations up outside of a bar and I think a tree was still up in front of a Ramada (or maybe it was a Radisson). My father is a Christian and it's the first time in my life I had ever seen anyone with a tree up longer than him. |

There are a few clothing shops here with small Christmas trees up, and I was in a restaurant last week with lights along the wall. A local hof here keeps Christmas decorations up all year. Last year a coffee shop in Migeum (Bundang) kept its store decorated for Christmas all year long. Well, I guess Koreans just like the way Christmas decorations look; the holiday doesn't have any real significance here, so keeping lights and trees up isn't gauche. |

For some reason, many people like to decorate for Christmas, but taking the stuff down is another story. I have seen people back in my hometown with an inflatable Santa on the roof of their house in July. I was actually startingto melt. I guess they figured they'd let it melt off. L-A-Z-Y. |
