I am having the hardest time finding cheap motels (w 30,000-60,000) on Jeju Island. Can anyone give good lodging suggestions? Thanks!
I found one for $49 a night, but I have been told a lot of cheap places are rented out for sex...so I'd like to avoid those places. |

Yes!
I stayed at one near the ocean in the city of Seogipo. It was called "Queen Hotel" in English, if memory serves. Four years ago, it was brand new. I think I paid 40,000 a night? I remember it was just off the main road, and I could see two big tourist site rocks in the water (just out the window). There was a waterfall tourist site area within walking distance, too. It was a very peaceful area, and a PC Bang was in walking distance up the hill, too.
It had a heart-shaped bed (hahaah).
It was a yogwan, but new and clean. Newlyweds trying to save money wouldn't mind it. I was quite happy with the place.
I bet if you took the bus to Seogipo, then jumped in a taxi, the taxi guy would know where to go. |

Do you know that big Chinese ship in the intersection near the east end of the seawall in Jeju City? Lots of 25,000-30,000 won hotels are in that area, just hit the side streets. And any hotel room, yeogwan to 5 star, has been rented out for sex. |

I stayed 2 nights in a yeogwon in Seoguipo for $30 a night and one night in a minbak in Seongsan-ri for $20. Both were clean, quiet, comfortable, and private. I was very pleased with what I got for the price. I didn't have a plan ahead of time. I just walked around once I got there and checked a few places out. Since it's not the height of tourist season, I'm sure you'll be fine doing the same.
You might also want to check out this thread about budget traveling in Jeju. Some folks say it's impossible, but I found it quite do-able.

I'm not that cheap, but I stayed in a place for about $70 a night near Jeju city that was an officetel rented out nightly. It was awesome. There was a yeo in the room, so the honey and I turned the ondol on, cranked the A/C full blast and opened the window. It was a resource wasters' paradise. |

Here's the one you want:

I stayed there for two days at 35000 a night. Perfectly clean, right downtown and no renting it out for sex from what I could tell.
The place I almost stayed at before this one was almost twice the price but I decided to stay there because they had internet access in the rooms. Or so he said. After going into the room there was nowhere to plug in the computer, nor wireless access. I called the guy to ask him how to connect and he pointed to the plug. Er...no, electricity doesn't equal internet, sorry. He seemed really confused. |
