I wanted to see if anyone has tried this before. My hagwon contract is expiring soon, and I want to move to Seoul to take the Korean language class at Sogang University. The classes start about a week after my E-2 expires, and I want to get a student visa so that I'm able to legally teach part time while going to school. I also want to be able to go to the pension office with my ticket out of the country so that I can get that money returned (although my out of the country ticket would really just be a visa run somewhere to get the D-4). Basically, I am trying to gauge how difficult it would be to get this sorted. This is my first stint in Korea, and I picked up my E-2 in the US before coming over here, so don't have the experience of making a visa run.

In my experience, if you are changing to something that is not a working visa, you don't need to leave the country. I got a "Change of Status of Sojourn." But I was not changing from a working visa either, so I don't know if that changes things.

Just so you know...
You still can't work legally with a D-4. That only applies to D-2s (enrolled full time at an undergrad/grad program). And even with D-2s, you're not allowed to work the first 6 months of your stay.

Not that this should stop you from working. You just don't have to leave the country every 3/6 months.
