I was just told by my work that utilities on my apartment are going to cost between 150 000 and 200 000W per month. This seems very high. It includes heating, elect. and water but seriously I was expecting more like 40 000 to 50 000W per month. What is reasonable, are they ripping me off?

thanks in advance

jane

Maybe it includes appartment fees? It might also depend on how big your pad is.

Jane,

I would ask for a break down and to see the actual bills. Most of the time I've been here I've taken care of my own bills, then I know exactly what I'm paying. Yes, it's kind of a pain because you have to pay them yourself, but then you know your not getting ripped off.

Thanks for the help. What are apartment fees? my apartment is a studio with a loft at the top... not very big. I hope that they just got it wrong and good idea about paying my own bills, I will do that for sure!

Cheers again for the info

The maintence fees can very from 10,000-100,000 (or more) a month depending upon your apartment building and what part of town your in.

Generally we are responsible for the maintence fees, while the school pays your rent. You should look at your contract and see what it says.

Again you really should ask to see the bills your paying. If they won't sit down and take the time to show you them, then something could be fishy.

Does anybody have a general idea of what's in our apt fees? I know I pay for water usage and a couple of chun for cable tv. Probably the cleaning ajumas fee is in there too. I should really look into it and see exactly what I'm paying for...

If you are in a little 4 floor walk up your utilities will run about:
20-30k for apartment fee
30-50k for electric (more if you use aircon- up to 200k)
20-50k for gas (heating, hot water, cooking)

plus internet and cable if you have more than the basic package.

If you are in a high rise building (apartment or officetel):
100-200 k for apartment fees (includes garbage, common area costs, security, building services, may include electric, cable and heat as well).

Plus phone, extra cable package if you have one, internet, etc.

Jane,

Just make sure that when your bill comes. you check that the apartment number, and the phone number is correct. The wrong bill may be in your mailbox!

Also make sure that you do not pay for the previous tenent.

You will not pay as low as 40,000 - or 50,000 won, unless you live in a dump and never used heat or electricity. If you are in an "Office Tel", your bills will be what you were told.
