How hard is it to find a portable size outdoor bbq grill in Korea? I was thinking about buying a new in box from home depot and shipping it to myself since I'll be with family, but why go through all that if they can be found.

Thanks.

Gas grills are pretty rare, but the charcoal kind arent that hard to find. Keep in mind though, like most things here, they're built low to the ground.

The basement grocery store in Kims Club in Bundang has them (charcoal). I\'m sure Carrefor has them too. The smaller ones are round, about 8 inches high, and the diameter of what they grill Kalbi on in the restaurants. They cost around 12,000 to 20,000. They also have some larger charcoal ones for more. Didn\'t see any gas ones.

They had a cute little one that fits into a round bag when you\'re finished (and it cools down).

You can get a portable grill for around 300 000won and a charcoal ones for about 50 and 80 000 won at Cosco. They also sell huge bags of briquettes (2x25lbs, if I remember correctly) for around 25000. But, I usually buy one of those tiny Korean grills found at any grocery store for 10000 or 20000 won. Works well enough for me. I use it for a summer and then dump it in the recycle bin in the fall (they tend to rust quickly). The grills are made to be used with the huge hockey-puck-shaped briquettes that can be bought at practically any convenience store in Korea.

Thanks everyone for your help. Is it ok to bbq on your balcony or roof in Seoul or will the fire marshall kick my butt? I'll be living by myself in a large apartment (rooftop) with a big balcony.

I'm a man of the grill, so this is important to me....otherwise I wouldn't bother you.

I've bbqued off my balcony in my old appartment, but that wasn't in Seoul. Practically every restaurant that serves meat in Korea is nothing more than an indoor bbq, so I doubt the fire marshall will care about a little grill on your rooftop.
