It's hard to pick what really is the biggest fight on this card, as there are no real top contenders aside from Ricardo Arona and Sokoudjou from Africa in the 205 lb/93 kg class. I'm picking Arona for that, but I think it will be good.
Zulu and Butterbean should be the sideshow of the evening. I recall Zulu's title shot against Emelianenko which ended in about 20 seconds. But with Butterbean in the ring, I wonder if Zulu will show his strength.
I pick James Thompson over Don Frye. Frye seems to be hanging on for the pay, as he's been a popular personality for years in Japan.
Kazayuki Fujita vs Jeff Monson should be interesting as it's billed as the first official UFC vs Pride matchup. To me, it's just a pair of fighters, neither one really representing either organization. It's not like it's the two top fighters from each organization going head to head. Monson is only 5'9, shockingly short for the heavyweight class. Apparently he also has a PhD in Psychology. Fujita FTW. |

Ready for the big matchup. The broadcasters certainly seem to be biased towards Sokoudjou, if air time means anything. |

Woah, I guess Soukoudjou really is a force of nature. I thought at first that the fight was stopped prematurely but then I saw that the referee absorbed a hard kick that would have connected with Arona's head.
Seeing that The African and Dan Henderson seem to be on the same team, I expect that Henderson will give up his title in that weight category to make way for a title shot for Soukoudjou. |
