Was in seoul today and was on the subway at Jongno 3-Ga...
I was reading the IHT when this crazy guy starting talking loudly at me....
I couldn't understand a thing he was saying(he was just basically making sounds that just ran into each other) but i knew it wasn't nice whatever was going through his head...
After 2 minutes of him berating me i told him sternly in Korean to hurry and and get off the subway because you are very annoying.
He went and hid up the other end of the subway car mumbling loudly some korean swear words for about 5 minutes while i held the newspaper up and blocked any view of him which annoyed him more but i think he got the point.....
Does anybody know who i am talking about....he looked pretty loopy and not with it so i didn't do anything stupid or rash....
Just having a bit of a rant...
Korea has been really good to me so i suppose i was due a loony tune.....
Funnily enough my first bad experience happened on the subway in Seoul as well which is wierd considering i live 400 km away and would visit twice a year on average....
Do people get a lot of heat on the subway in Seoul??/
-Experience nothing like what i have there in the past down here in the sunny south.... |

I can understand. I had a guy one time at the subway sit across from me and began yelling at me too (maybe the same guy?). I couldn't understand him; the only thing I could semi-understand was when he kept saying "Iraq! Iraq! Iraq!" Luckily,(though rather unfortunately) some attractive foreign blonde girl stepped in and he quickly ignored me to put a few ounces of Korean vitriol on her. I didn't stick around long to see the aftermath, but I feel for anyone on the receiving end of some random kooky/drunk ajjoshi's venting. |

| Crazy dudes are drawn to subways much as a salmon is drawn upstream. It is where they belong. |

| I've met a lot of crazy people on the subway but they always want to be my friend. A couple months ago I was attacked by a gang of middle school girls who wanted to know my favourite band and if I had a girlfriend. I got off at the next stop and waited for the next train. |

Beat me to it, but I have the stronger claim because:

This has NOTHING to do with nutters or nutters being drawn to subways yadda yadda. It's all about the Jongno and our high national pride. |

Worse things happen over five years in a big city back home: I've had someone threaten me with a gun in Vancouver, chase me yelling and screaming for no reason on the streets of San Francisco and hit me with a chair in Detroit.
Funny though that when we go overseas we start tallying experiences and judging accordingly.
Life is life, and if one's gonna start keeping score, then Korea's ahead of the game in some ways. |

When I was in Vancouver with a couple Japanese friends, we were assaulted by a homeless guy wanting money who kept saying that he had AIDS and would infect us if we didn't give him money. He followed us for quite awhile, scared the hell out of my Japanese friends who had never have anything like that happen before. |

Had that happen this week. But the guy was focusing on a number of people on the train before he got to me.
I looked at him, smiled, and he went away.
I'm guessing a different guy than yours. |

Not surprised they were scared if they hadn't had AIDS/HIV before. |
