What sort of maintenance needs to be done on Korean 125cc motorcycles?

How often are oil changes needed?

Change the oil every 500 kms. It costs 5000 won at any shop. At the same time they usually check if if your chain needs tightening or oil. Korean 125 cc bikes are cheap and easy to repair.

He probably meant "5000," but knowing the backwards way of Korea, "500" could be right when driven in Seoul traffic.

Changing the oil on a motorcycle is super-simple (unless, of course, we refer back to the backwards way of Korea) and can be done on your own with one tool, an oil pan and and new oil. Please dispose of the used oil properly (your toilet or the Han River will work just fine, just ask any local bike shop).

No because they are 125CC. Most dirt bikes back home needed a change at 500kilometers.

125cc really have to stress a lot and most are aircooled.

My 250 has an oil change every 1000-1400 kilometers and my oil change is a bit more then 5000

korean motorcycles run on one cylinder so its 500 km. For me its about once a month or two months. Not expensive and not a hassle.

Here's my question: My batter has been dead all winter. getting the bike picked up today...how much do you think it will cost me?

I'm guessing your battery will cost you around 40,000 to 60,000 depending. That is one of the more expensive things I've found needed changing on my Daelim 125cc.

Yes, you change the oil every 500km. I found a shop near my home which uses Valvolene, instead of the that cheap ZIC crap. I'm very happy about that. One shop wanted me to pay three times as much to "upgrade" to some budget wal-mart brand of oil that was not Korean. I laughed.

As long as you change it every 500km, you should have no problems with the oil.

I also have them blow out the air intake area every year. There is sort of an air screen inside an air box on my 125. It's under the seat. I had it done once (after never doing it before) and they blew out a big pile of crap in the airbox. Make sure you do that if you own a Daelim 125.

I have also had to replace the belt after 10000km. Maybe it was replaced before -- have no way of knowing. That was 30,000 to 40,000 won I think. When it started going bad, I was almost afraid to take it into the shop because it made the most horrible grinding sound. I was sure I had ruined the engine. The guy heard the sound and knew immediately that it was the belt. Easy fix in 20 mins. If you have a chain drive, you don't have to worry about this. Actually, belts are better... almost never have to adjust them. Chains need adjusting nearly every other to every third oil change, I've found.

I replaced the brakes when I got it, and had some electrical work done. Just be sure to do regular maintenance, keep it clean, and it should run well for you for a long time. Had my Daelim nearly 4 years now, and put on about 6,000 km.

Oh, I seem to change the tires every few years.

Ok, so I'll get the oil changed every 500kms. I will also have them blow out air intake. Is there an air filter I should change?

Is the 125cc a 2 stroke?? Is that why you need to change the oil so often??

Wrench said they have a lot of stress on them and are air cooled.

If it was a 2 stroke motor, that would be one fast bike, but it's not a 2 stroke.

So basically every gas fill up you need to do the oil too....


I seriously hope these guys are not putting the oil down the rivers and shit!!

It's about W5000 for an oil change....How many kms are you guys getting on a tank? Whats a tank cost to fill up?

Different bikes have different tanks. My old 125cc cost about 10000won to fill up and I got about 250kms out of that. I have a different 125cc now which takes about 15-17000won to fill up. For every 5000 won I put in it I think I get about 100kms until the 'empty' light comes up. I'm sure I could squeeze another 20kms out of it with the light glowing but given the infrequency that I see gas stations in some areas of Busan I'd rather not.

The 125cc bikes are cheap to fix especially if you get used parts which some of shops carry. Used batteries are about half the price as are tires. Ive had a bit of a problem with someone slashing my tires, happened twice now, so until I move into a place with under ground parking I'll stick with the 125.

I just had the engine rebuilt in mine for 250,000. Replaced the piston, rings, cam, cam chain, valves and had new brakes. I was at the point of getting another 125 for 600,000 or just fixing this one which was cheaper and now has a rebuilt engine.

well I jsut took mine to the shop and it needs a new battery, a new coil and magnet, I guess is like the alternator...

W100,000.....I think i'm getting ripped off....
