Anyone have any information on this school? I realize Ding Ding Dang is a franchise and their may be more than one in Daegu but I don't have any more specific information than that.

Search function craps itself when searching for ding ding dang, as I almost did when I heard my buddy was considering working for that franchise.

There are several in Daegu, and I've heard really bad things about one of them. Could you get more specific (Daegu is a city of around 2.5 million people).

I know there's been a terrible thread related to ding dong or ding ding dang or what ever school in Daegu few months ago.

Be careful!

This is my personal rant to newbies and it has served a large number of them well... take it for what it's worth.

Talk to MORE THAN ONE of the foreign staff and ask POINTED AND SPECIFIC QUESTIONS (*when the boss is NOT listening over their shoulder).

-What are the hours? (start time / stop time / breaks).
-How many classes per day, week, month? NOT hour many hours per month. 30 classroom hours can mean anything from 1350 -1800 minutes per week standing in front of the class. The difference can be up to 7.5 HOURS in front of the class EACH WEEK.
-Do they ALWAYS pay on time?
-Do they pay at the end of your month or do they have a hold back period (5-10 days after your month end) to prevent runners? (no=red flag 1)
-Do they really pay overtime or avoid it with creative book keeping?
-Do you get credit for classes on the national holidays or do you get the day off but still have to work your 120 hours before you get overtime? (no=red flag 2)
-Do they have national medical (with the little booklet)? (no=red flag 3)
-Do they pay into pension? (no=red flag 4)
-What about the holidays? 10 or more WORKING days? (legal requirement here) (no=red flag 5)
-When and how do you get your holidays?
-What extra stuff do you really have to do - mentioned or not in the contract.
-Then consider the quality of life issues - things that are important to you that aren't mentioned here (housing, furnishings, THE BATHROOM, access to recreational facilities, shopping, banking).
Do they take additional deposits in addition to the delay in payday? (yes=red flag 6)

Most newbies are all starry-eyed when they do their interview and DON'T ASK the right questions then get burned when they get here.

There are no shortage of jobs. 20,000 positions and 11,000 applicants. Anything you look at will still be there tomorrow. Don't be pressured into anything. Take your time and do it right.

To the o.p. don't even think about it!! I worked at a franchise down in the south of Korea, it was hell!!! Can't comment specifically about the one in Dageu, but I'll trll you this: the curriculum sucks big time!!! It could send a glass eye to sleep, especially when you are teaching 6/7 hours per day. Oh, by the way, hello, Boo Chang if you are reading this, you fat piece of crop!!!

Yep, I give a big thumbs up up to ding dang do. We wonder why Korea is still lagging in its language skills:because we have 'schools' that exist like the one that is under discussion...and freaky waygooks!!!!

That's pretty much true, unfortunately. This is another one of the chain franchises that is more or less crap from top to bottom.

To the OP - you would do EFL teachers here a favour if you replied 'I'm sorry, but I've just heard too many bad things about this franchise to take the risk. I won't be working for Ding Ding Dang because of it's terrible reputation'.

Yeah I've heard of Ding Ding Dang in Daegu.

And what I've heard is to stay the heck away ... It has one of the worst reputations in Daegu with foreigners.

Yep, it seems that the one at Jukjeon is particularly bad, while Seongso is a bit better. But, of course, a lot depends on who are the current members of staff.
