Wounded Foreign Workers Unable to Get Compensation
Celena, a 28-year-old woman from Bangladesh, had her hand cut off by a machine while working at a plant in Euijongbu, Kyonggi Province in May 2006. She came to South Korea to make enough money to raise her three children after her husband died. However, she couldn't get any compensation for treating her injury as she was an unregistered worker.

"My Korean boss refused to pay me for my injury saying that my status is illegal...."

Kim Jong-wook, a 50-year-old ethnic Korean who came to South Korea in 1996 after residing in China, suffered a broken leg while working at a construction site in the nation seven years ago. Although his leg had to be amputated, his company refused to pay any compensation for the accident until his family launched a strong protest.

"I am just so frustrated and saddened by my mother nation's discrimination against its own people," Kim told The Korea Times.

Well, you finally found something worth talking about. But, what are you doing about it? This happens in many countries, what did Korea do to piss you off so bad?

But, do not think this is limited to foreigners in Korea. Koreans get shafted by this too. I remember seeing about some guy who died at a factory due to incompetence and his family only got a bit of money (under 100000 dollars for sure, I can't remember exactly). I have seen a few other stories like this.

So I need to wear safety glasses whilst using the chalk board just in case a piece of chalk flies out and takes my eye out.

Right then off to the hardware store.

I lost 80% of my hearing in my right ear when I taught at a Hagwon. One of my precious lil ones decided sneaking up on me and blowing their new trumpet in my ear as loud as they could would be funny.

If I were still teaching in the States, I'd be rich having sued the school district. Here, I'm just, well, deaf in my right ear.

Only in emergency situations, and then usually sub-standard.

You're right: This sort of thing does happen in other nations. Here, though, it happens routinely or nearly routinely, and Real Reality cares enough about the country to let others know that indifference and hatred towards non-Koreans is widespread and must be stopped.

As for locals, it's comforting to know that they can get the civic groups, their churches, friends, families, contacts, and the National Human Rights Commisssion to support them if and when they have a grievance against a Korean person.

In fact, all people in the U.S. are supposed to be entitiled to free medical care if they can not afford the cost of medical treatment.

Did you attempt any legal recourse?
