Hi ya'll.
So, it's official. Krats is leaving the ROK (WOOHOO!!). I'm pretty excited to be heading back after 4 years and actually interacting w/ my family again.
I have one little 60 lb. hurdle, though. I know all about getting the paperwork to take Osito back to the US & stuff, but where the heck do I get a big ol' crate for my 60 lb Jindo/Punsan/Aikida/Whatever-the-heck-else-he-is dog? Do the airlines usually have them? Can you buy one that big here? I know you can get them in the States, but I've never seen one here big enough for my dog.
Any ideas? |

You might try purchasing one online. I just bought a really good one from petsmart.com which has removable wheels (good for putting on after the flight to make it easier to wheel the doggie out of the airport). That way you don't have to spend extra moolah on a dog crate dolly. These run about 40 to 70 bucks from what I found...
The model I got for my 55 lb. lab mix is a Kennel Express by Stylette. It measures 36 in. by 24 in. by 28 in. (LXWXH). It's really nice; it comes with an accessory package that includes the food and water dishes, an absorbent pad and the required 'Live Animal' stickers. $89.99 US. It's approved for both domestic and international air travel. OH, and if you google 'petsmart coupons;, you can find an online coupon code that gives you $10 off your order.
I was advised to measure the dog's height from foot to shoulder while she's standing and then add 6 inches to find the height of the carrier which would be the best fit. It's also a good idea to have a soft pad or blanket inside the base of the carrier for a week or two so that the dog can become accustomed to laying inside it.
Best of luck! From the website, I just found that they will process international orders... Not sure on how long that would take for you, but my order here in the US was placed on a Sunday and arrived the following Friday. |

Most vets seem to have pet supplies catalogs. Thats how we got the one for out dog. They have all different sizes and styles.
Just becareful that you get one that isn't collapsible and has ventilation on al lfour sides, as well as a solid floor. The airlines are quite picky. Also, I would suggest getting one that is bigger than what your dog actually needs (for airlines, the dog must be able to stand up and turn around). Its a bit more expensive, but much more comfy for the dog on such a long flight. |

Would the airline have specialist crates that they use for animals? Dunno, but I would call the airline before anyone else. |

I bought my cage/carrier for Indy in Chungmuro last summer. I got one that folds down and had no problems with it. To make sure that it would be approved, I went to the products' website and printed off the information to take with me, in case there was any problems as it stated it was good for domestic and international flights. It was about 100,000 W. Indy now uses it for his bed and when we go back to Canada this year, I'll be using it again for the flight. Hope this helps. PM if you want the name of the website. |

Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone. I'll check with the airline first (I know they supply 'em in Alaska, but I guess I thought that was just an Alaska thing... what with all the dogs we have up there). I didn't think the US pet shops would ship here, but I'll check with them too.
ucfvgirl... how big is your dog now? |

Most airlines will sell them. If you know who you are flying with, consult the website and give them a call. It's not necessarily the cheapest one, but it's not that big of a difference. You could also contact someon in the military, because there must be soldiers who have big dogs and know how to buy a big crate. |
