so yeah I work at a hagwon...anyways my director has basically told me that I have to teach this incredibly bad child u book, anyways...I also have to draw up the monthly curriculum, for not only myself but also the korean teacher who is on my team (no this was not in my contract) So anyways I draw up the curriculum and the whole month goes by with every once in a while I notice that the korean teacher has already done what I had planned for me to do in the book that day. So now today comes and I tell the kids to open their books and I notice that the korean teacher has already done my entire assignment with my class. AND she also decided to give the kids phrases to write down and memorize that were and I quote
"Why are we doing this again?"
"I will not answer that to you"
"When will you make us leave?" ( I assume this last one is supposed to be let us leave"

So I left work today rather tempted to pretty much go ballistic on this broad. But I hate my job anyways so I just sulked and came home to collect my thoughts and complain to all of you.

Ha ha ha ha.....read my thread "I'm so angry I could spit."

So what you need to do is either talk to him about it, and if you have, and you were ignored, then I think you should bait him. Give him a lesson plan that is about 3 minutes long. Let him figure the rest out.

I think you should plan an off-the-curriculum special lesson called "Emotional Sentences" Have the students memorize the following words and to please test them out on their Korean teacher: "You're fat, you need to go on a diet;" "You are too ugly;" "You don't know what you're doing do you?" and my personal favorite: "BOOOOOOORING!!!" in a really loud obnoxious voice. Reward the whole class with candy the next day if they can say it loud enough to be audible from your office while she teaches." Just a suggestion. Wink

read your post...yeah, I've decided to go korean on her. Lesson plans are due this week for the next month. As far as I'm concerned my contract doesn't say that I have to draw hers up, and it doesn't say that I have to tell her that I'm not doing it either.

I hate my job. no really I do.

Ah, let me preface all that with the first question you should ask your students:

Students: "Why are we doing this again?"

You: "You know, those are really stupid questions. Whoever taught you those questions is really, REALLY stupid. Please unlearn those questions now and whoever keeps teaching you such horrible English, tell them they are really stupid. You guys are not stupid, you are smart. Here. Let me teach you some real "good" English expressions to use on REALLY STOOPID people. I call this "Emotional English" . . . . . . . "

I know how you feel. Every Korean co-teacher I've worked with has been worthless, and some have been back-stabbing a--holes. Rolling Eyes

yeah..I'm going to save lessons in the future for something with a little sting to it, just for this reason. But after I saw what she had them write down and learn I was more than a little upset and probably went a little wild with the correction pen, explaining to them that what they had was garbage.

I can remember a teacher like that when I taught hagwon. I once made up puzzles for a class and put them in the class folder. She taught them the block before I did and used the puzzles for her lesson. That's the point at which it's not worth getting angry or trying to remedy anything but just lower expectations to rock bottom.

I've run across Child U before.

I used to work for a director who wouldn't listen to a word I said when I tried to tell her what I learned in ESL methods class, but when a Child U salesman came along, she fell hook, line, and sinker.

For the first few months, she had to pay a million weon a month, but she assured herself that it was going to be worth it. The Child U program was going to be the talk of the town! Parents from all over town were going to come in droves!

Last I heard, she wasn't employing any foreign teachers because she had to scale everything down.

It looks like Child U is better at selling their materials than at designing their materials.
