A few weeks ago I whined about getting a class canceled because of math testing. So now I am back with a new thing to whine about....

I had 1 class canceled because of......wait for it.....wait for it............................

A GYM TEST!

I asked my coteacher why didn't they have the test during their gym class. He laughed and said "That would make sense, wouldn't it?"

But what can I expect from a school that won't let me teach remedial 1, 2, 3, and 4 grade students how to read Rolling Eyes

I loved this school last year and it's only been a month and I have gotten pissed off so many times in that time compared to all of last year....

Being an American, I find it encouraging that your school puts extra
emphasis on physical education.

They know you're working hard so they want you to take a break. Wink

I'm American too but I'd rather have my school put extra emphasis on physical education DURING physical education class!

I know the ops comments were more to blow off steam. Though I feel it is more productive for your stress level and subsequently your physical and economic health to SMILE and say "Thank you for notifying me of the change".

Don't get worked up, don't get annoyed, just think that now you have a premade lesson plan for the next time. If they cancel your classes and you stay in Korea long enough, soon you will have a years worth of premade untaught lessons that will allow you to cruise one year.

If that doesn't make your day, then put on some reggae type of be happy music and mellow. You will break before they do and getting upset about it will just make your days harder.

Being a kid, I find it encouraging that schools will give us this extra "play" time. Even if it is a test.

Seriously, take it in stride. But if you want to stretch your legs, why not ask them to cancel some gym classes while you give some real quality assessment and fluency tests?????

[just kidding]

Hahaha...Some of these comments are funny...

Actually one of the reasons I was annoyed was because of something that happened last year. Due to a lot of interruptions and cancellations, I didn't finish the book (surprise surprise), so they tried to tell me I had to make up the classes in February. I absolutely refused...

I'm not going to blow a gasket over this. I'm not even annoyed about it now. BUT I don't take kindly to the idea that everything else is more important to my class. I'm not even the high strung type but this kind of crap is starting to even push my buttons...

Interesting....I'm sitting in my classroom and not one student is here yet. Oh well....I'm sure they are doing something immensely more important.... Rolling Eyes

Hahahaha....

First class of the day is 10 minutes late to a class that lasts 40 minutes.

Next class was supposed to be late because of the test. No biggie...But then my coteacher comes and tells me "Oh, the kids are playing soccer. They don't want to come to class. So, I guess class is canceled." That is so brilliant. I wonder if I can get away with that, "I like my bed, so I'm not coming to class."

Ahhhh....to dream, to dream...

Wait. You're complaining about having to teach less? Same pay?

It's time for you to leave Korea. Seriously.

You've got a poser job. Treat is a such. Use all your sick days. Show up late. Go home when there are no classes.

Don't work hard. Work smart. Just be nice and friendly all the time and they won't want to lose face and hurt your feelings.

I just taught my first class of the year (from start to finish) and I was really surprised to hear my coteacher say, "You should rest this class".

And no she wasn't there watching how terribly my class (didn't) go..

That's a hard line to walk. On the one hand, sure, screw them if they're not going to respect you. On the other hand, treating the job like a joke just reinforces the waegook stereotypes.

Having said that, I would be pretty pissed if my class got cancelled so they could play soccer. I'd probably take the above advice and go into "bare minimum" mode... lots of games, lots of showing up a little late, putting in jack amounts of work. If my employer doesn't respect me, I sure as hell aren't going to show him any.
