Well, my parents are coming this year for Chuseok. I am looking to put them up in a nice hotel, preferably around the Kangnam area. I will be paying for it. I want something nice, but not too too expensive. Any recommendations? I know about the Ritz Carlton there, and that is nice. Maybe a little too expensive, but I'll check on that one.

Novotel? It overlooks the Seoul tower and is fairly close to a station.

I second the Novotel. My friend stayed there when she came to visit me. Even the basic rooms are beautiful.

Do you guys remember the rates at Novotel? It's hard to get a straight answer from these guys.

The Imperial Palace is also quite something. A non chain, super deluxe but not as pricey as Lotte. Featured recently in some Korean TV drama.

Sorry I don't know the rates as my friend got discounted rates as she works for the company which owns the hotel.

They speak lovely English there too.

Looks nice, but about 300,000 won/night.

No complaints from the 2 people I knew who stayed at Ibis. Behind the POSCO building between Samseong and Seolleung stations. It's one of those business travellers-type hotels.

I think the rates would be a lot less than the more tourist/executive type places.

There you go. Around 100,000 per night for a double room. I think that's really cheap for Gangnam.

Thanks Eamo, that's pretty much exactly what I was looking for in terms of quality and price.

I stayed at the Hotel Highland in Gangnam, which is right by Sinsa station. The room was very nice, I thought. It was 60,000won/night. The sign at the desk said it was 65,000 including VAT, but I guess they didn't bother with it. Their website is www.hotelhighland.co.kr

That looks nice too. Do the rooms really look like the pictures? Did it have a love motel feeling at all? Can't beat that price. I think I will have to go and physically check out these places.

Yes, actually the one I was in looked a lot like one of the pictures on the front page of their website. I didn't get the love motel feel there, and I was there on a Saturday night.

Since they're not coming till Chuseok - which is like mid-September this year - you have plenty of time to find the best deal. I recommend booking through one of the Internet discount agencies. For example, this one lists the price for Novetel Ambassador Gangnam at $121 from now till June, and $147. from April through June. (I don't think that their Chuseok prices will be much higher since most local people empty out of Seoul at that time...)

Sometimes the major luxory hotels offer very big discounts that are listed in the Korean Herald weekend/travel sections...I think I saw one a couple weeks ago offering their regular $300. rooms for an even $100. for this entire month (I can't remember if it was one of the Marriots or Hyatts...)
