|
|
Hey everyone, I am planning on teaching in korea within the next year or so and I was wondering first off if it would be worth it for me to bring my NTSC 360 over with me when i travel, including all my games.. Or if I should just maybe purchase one there. I know i won't be able to find any games that would work with my xbox because of the region but that doesn't bother me too much, if anything i can try and get some friends to send them to me if i'm really desparate.
Also, is high speed internet access available all over the country, such as in the Gangseo region of Seoul, or is it just mainly in the urban areas.
Thanks for taking the time to read my dumb questions and any answers you provide. |

Gangseo is rural? If you're anywhere in seoul, you'll be able to get 100Bit internet for about 25-30 bucks a month.
TVs are NTSC here - so no problem with that -- but the electricity is different. 220volt. I'm not sure if the XBOX 360 power supply can take it directly of if you need a transformer. Either way - no problem.
I hear that the 360 has been cracked already - and that pirate games are floating around yongsan. If you bring it, you should be able to get it chipped to play any game you want or have currently. I hear that it costs about 50,000 won. The 360, as I'm sure you know, uses regular DVDs so.. torrent your favorite game and burn away! |

The firmware of the 360 DVD drive has been hacked. I'm not sure about any mod chip working so far.
NTSC games are available in Yongsan and a lot of Asian region games are multi region. You can find a list at www.play-asia.com. |

Yes. Ask for the American version. I got Dead Rising there. You can also get US NTSC games from Play-Asia. You can always get your Xbox modded so you can play copied stuff if you're so inclined. |

Yes you can get 100MBit but only if you live in an institution or hi rise apartment building. If you live elsewhere you would be looking at 3mbit to 10mbit. And the general cost is 30 to 40,000 won per month |

100mbps is insanely fast. Its 100mbps upload and download. Average cable modem speed in the US is roughly 5mbps down/ 512kbps up.

To put it into perspective. The most expensive Verizon FiOS package is $179 and its only 30mbps down/5mbps up. Korea's Megapass is like $40 a month and its 100mbps down/100mbps up. |

There is a difference between megabytes and megabits. You can get 100 megabit connection but these are not 100 megabyte per second.
1 MBps = 8 Mbps
1 byte = 8 bits |

100 megabit is so fast it isnt even worth discussion. On the right server you can stream fullscreen HD content. |

Just picked up the gf the best-looking 32" LCD TV I've ever seen. It was a new Samsung PAVV model, and we found it for 1,100,000 won. It' is a 1080i TV. At that size, 1080p is a total waste of money. The picture on this TV smoked every other TV in every shop -- we checked both Younsan and TechnoMart. Gorgeous black levels (10,000 to 1, but looked as good as the insanely-priced 15,000 to 1 50" monitor we saw), resolution, and detail (better than the PDPs, which is insane). Color was outstanding.
My 42" Full HD LG XCanvas looks great, but her 32" makes me jealous. Actually, it won't matter because we'll get married anyway (haha)..
Here is the link to hers:

Let me ask a related question:
Is it possible to use a North American Xbox Live account in South Korea? I know Korea has its own XBL servers, but would like to continue using my American one. |

Yes. A number of us have two accounts - one Korean, one U.S. because the Marketplace offerings in Korea are severely restricted in comparison to what's on tap in North America. |

Another question...
Does the firmware hack on the XboX 360 allow you to play copied games over XboX Live?? How about legit versions of games?
I know even the best mod chips for the original XboX had to be disabled in order to play Live, due to MS's ability to run diagnostics.
Getting caught with a modded box can get you banned from the Live network. |

A friend tried his horribly illegal pirated games on my xbox and they worked fine on Live. Of course I only have it modded for my backup copies. |
