|
|
Hello, I am looking for some information on transportation to the Sorak area and advice on hotels there. I would be departing from Seoul and would like to know where to get information for a bus to the area. Also, I would like to know if anyone can offer me their opinions on hotels in the area. I can't seem to find too many resources on the net and what I am finding I'm not sure if the prices are reasonable for the area. Thanks in advance for your help! |

Buses leave from Express Bus Terminal pretty regularly (like, every 15 minutes maybe? I don't know for sure).
As for hotels, I've never really worried about it until I got there and have just stayed in whatever I find. The last time I was there I stayed in the hotel that looks like a castle across the street from the bus station and it was 30,000, but it was also 2am when I made my way there.
I've also stayed in a JjimJilbang kinda near there (cati-corner from E-Mart), but I didn't have a great night of sleep there. If you like doing the Jimjilbang thing, it's like ten bucks. |

There's plenty of cheapo motels in the area and a decent local bus network, should be easy.
Also go to daepo harbor "daepohang" for some great sea food. |

There's a bus station near gangbyeon subway station (line 2, look far right if you're looking at a map of the subway). From ground level you can get a bus that will take you to Sokcho. The trip takes about 3 hours.
From upstairs you can get the bus referred to by previous posters. It takes about half an hour extra than the previous bus I mentioned (stops in Yinyang) and I don't think it leaves as often from Seoul.
Price is approx 19,000 Won for each bus.
Take a 7 or 7-1 bus to get to Sorak mountain. Price = 900 Won and Sorak mountain is the last stop. Comes every half hour or less.
I don't know how much the motels cost etc. as I live here but they are everywhere. I think there is a hostel very near the mountains...in fact you can stay in a hostel on the mountains if that's your cup of tea...
I've stayed in a 'everybody sleeps on the floor' type place (can't remember the name of it in Korean) on the peak of a mountain for relatively cheap (15,000 won or so) but it took about 8 hours to get to. There's a few options if you are a hardcore hiker.
The downstairs bus terminal takes you to the 'far end' of town (it takes 10 minutes to traverse the town by the bus...every 15 minutes or less).
The upstairs bus takes you to the other side of town, near the beach and emart...it's 10 minutes nearer the Sorak area. |
