Help needed please. I taught in Korea in 2001, and at that time was required to present my transcripts to the authorities in question. Now, as I embark on another teaching assignment in this country, I find that; now, I am supposedly required to present 'sealed' with a university stamp on the envelope my transcripts! Lost, Clueless all these come to mind!! Does this mean I have to contact my Uni again and ask for further transcripts in a stamped sealed unopened envelope! Is this possible, I ask myself or maybe my previous transcripts will suffice? Answers on a postcard to Clueless in the U.K. Thanks in advance!

What I highlighted in red, is now what you need to do to get your E-2 visa.

Yes, you do. I am from the Uk and had to do the very same thing.
Just call or e-mail the departmental office of the subject you studied and give them detailed instructions on how you need the transcripts to be presented and you should be fine.
I got mine for free, but there may be a charge at other unis.

You do need sealed transcripts. I caution against ordering multiples for future jobs, as immigration will only accept recently acquired sealed transcripts. They need to have an issuing date of no more than 3 months from application.

Depends on the Immigration Office, the officer you're dealing with, whether or not he got a BJ from his mistress last night, or if his wife gave him a hard time that morning. There is no set rule. It is all up to the guy you talk with.

My transcripts were more than a year old and Daejeon Immigration didn't say a thing. Got my visa within a week. This was 3 months ago.

polonius...you are making statements as fact...not just on this thread (see broken appliances) that simply aren't true.
I signed a contract in October. My transcripts were almost two years old.

Actually Polonius is correct technically. If you ask immigration that's the offical rule on transcripts but as YoungFRANKenstein said, in reality it depends on the officer/office you're dealing with, if they're having a bad day or not. I have had a teacher's transcripts knocked back because of the 3 month rule and his trancsripts were only 3 and a half months old so it does happen.

Anyone who has been here any length of time would know by now that immigration is generally inconsisent, especially when dealing with different offices around Korea.

Poet13 before you go making your claims that I am not factual, you should be aware yourself. I have had teachers refused visa because of the 3 month rule. Also, I have had teachers refused their visa because the seal date on the back was different than that on the actual transcript.

You were lucky, maybe the immigration guy just let it slide.

Apology coming??? I doubt it.

All I can say is my Immigration Officer must have had a GREAT night...When I was in the UK and tried to send a sealed transcript to my new employer, the DHL people refused to allow anything to be put into their envelopes without prior inspection by their staff. I was really pushed for time, so I simply added a note to explain why the "sealed" transcript had been opened, sent it off and hoped for the best. It was accepted without any trouble at all. (And my employers are not private Hagwon folk, but the Local Education Authority - who are normally real sticklers for correct procedure - which makes it all the more strange. Sometimes, I suppose it just comes down to sheer luck !

Actually polonius, when I'm wrong, I can admit it. I apologize, and I promise not to assume you don't know what you're talking about, if you promise not to assume I can't "man up". Fair enough?

I can definitely understand being refused because the seal and transcripts dates are different. However, I would argue that being refused because it's plus 3 months is the exception rather than the rule....whatever the rule is. Kind of like getting a ticket for watering your grass on Sunday.

i just took a look at my transcripts and none of the envelopes have dates on them. perhaps b/c i ordered multiple, and the postmark was on the big envelope that all the sealed envelope transcripts came in.

ohh Immigration ....gotta love 'em.
Absolutely everything above from each and every poster is true somedays and false other days.
It all comes down to the date of the last BJ or time of the last soju.

This sealed transcript rule is nonsense. Especially when you've already worked in Korea, and immigration have already verified that your degree is legit. Why do we have to go through this palava, everytime we change job?
