they look a bit like loonies and toonies (Canadian dollar coins)
and a bit like a radical change in the concept of a gold medal:
"Hey look ma! I won this medal with a big thick round ring of jade in it!"
Instead of what they used to say: "I won GOLD" :

The accompany promotional material released by Chinese officals said that, "The medals... are an embodiment of traditional Chinese values of ethics and honor, sending forth strong Chinese flavor."
LOL ahhhhh hahaha.
That "flavor" you taste comes from the dead bodies (now fogotten) of the 1000+ students murdered by the Chinese government at Tiananmen Square. |
