Sweltering on the streets of Saigon I was in desperate need of lunch and some refreshments. Like an oasis in sea of motorbikes I saw a Korean resturant and made a beeline for my first taste of kimchi in over a month.

As I plonked myself down and asked for some water I heard 'josenmal jal hae shi nae!' and realized that I was in a North Korean resturant.

I decided to forgo the dogmeat that was on the menu and went for my favorite dolsot bibimbab.

The waitresses sporting their little Kim Jong Il pins made their southern sisters seem kind of butch and ungraceful by comparison. However the whole time I had to resist the urge to scream 'you're a communist? how cute!' at them.

Why didn't you re-educate her about good things of the west?

Were they hot compared to SK sisters? In Korea its known that North has better looking women and south better looking guys. Of course, not fashion can play a thing also, but when naked...

And what's wrong with being a communist Rolling Eyes

But the question we all wonder is did they resist their urge to meddle with the food of the capitalist pig that came into their restaurant....

I have no idea, but they were playing the communist songs on an american DVD player and serving up Pepsi and 7up to me and a bunch of other Nam-Joseners assembled for what was the most expensive meal I had in Vietnam!

The IRONY!!! Its like the video I saw of the Middle East after 9-11. It was showing people cheering and burning the US flag. The ironic part was in the middle of the cheering people was a bunch of Arabs in a Ford.

That place used to be my regular hang out restaurant when I was in Vietnam. That's the only N. Korean restaurant in HCM city across from the Korean Bank. A really tiny place with two N. Korean waitresses covered under thick make-up.

I heard that place is just a front for the money laurdering, drug dealing, counterfitting, and any other dirty N. Korean operation.

They had some good N.Korean style dumplings though.

When I went to the North Korean restaurant in Beijing, they seemed really happy to have a waegook present. They were so shocked to see that I could speak some Korean. Really good experience in every way.

I really wanted to meet North Koreans when I was in China but none of my other friends seemed interested.

Sarcasm? Maybe being a communist isn't bad on certain levels, but do you think the majority of the people in N. Korea are benefiting from the way communism is working in their country?

When I was in Northern China I met quite a few.. and dined at a number of restaurants.

While cool, I felt kind of odd. I had so many questions, but felt so limited in what comfort would allow.

I grew up in communism so I have right to say. It is a political system and it is a good one. Just the guy is a total idiot who is runing the country.
