I got mine online. It cost ten dollars and took a few weeks. I went to my state's website (Pennsylvania) and found the place to request a criminal record check. I checked back a few weeks later---I had to write down my number and the date when I had it done---and printed out the results. The result page, which said "no record," seemed pretty sparse, but when I asked the police in PA if there was anything more to it, they said no. I submitted it in Korea and have had no problems.

I also had mine done online. I used a commercial service the cost was around $30usd payable by credit card, results returned instantly. I was also concerned because the output page was sparse no record. However, it was accepted with no problem.

To save $10and have it in 5 minutes:

Download your city police department's logo, and print up your own.

Which hopefully never questioned as you will then have a criminal record, or at least a warrant for your arrest for falsifying documents or fraud.

Spend the $10 unless you have something to hide.

I've been at the same job for a while...

Are they asking you for criminal checks now? Or just for your particular job?
