What are they training me to do?

Is it a waste of time or a decent training session?

Who carries them out are they by Koreans or foreigners.

You will learn a lot about how Koreans can waste an entire day on absolutely nothing. The highlight of the day will be some official standing up, telling you that you are not as good as your superior Korean counterparts, and that the Korean educational system is second to none.

Somewhere in there, you'll watch a totally scripted sample lesson that is not realistic.

Co-teacher said I didn't have to attend due to my overwhelming superiority over the other GPIK teachers. Just as well, I'd rather teach than have to shuttle back and forth out there and be bored to death everyday for an entire week.

If its in Suwon then I can just stay at a friend's place. Can anyone give any specifics on it?

How many people usually attend, how many hours a day is it? Do they give you free food? What do the girls that go look like?

Do you normally have to stay over at these things? The wife was due out the week before and I don't think she would be best pleased being abandoned for a week.

Have her pop over here every evening for cards. Don't neglect to allocate her plenty of funds...Been getting loads of practice lately.

I attended this same event last year in Suwon and yes it is without a doubt a complete waste of time. However, there are two good things you can get out of it. One, you can make friends with other native teachers. Secondly, you get to eat a little bit of western food for free. The hotel is nice enough, but personally I would rather cook at home for myself.

They don't train you to do anything, it is just a dumb way of introducing you to Korea cause it's not realistic. In all fairness there wouldn't be enough time to train anyone anyhow.

Surprisingly, there was one good demo and it was from a Korean university professor. I can't remember her name. The worst demos were from the native teachers! It was pathetic actually, one of the native teachers who volunteered to help the demo actually got hurt trying to play some stupid hacky sack jump game.

There was one saving grace to the whole affair, it was a nice musical presentation by Korean children playing Korean instruments. That was worth checking out for sure.

What is the point of training people 2.5 months after most people started their job? For those of us who have been in Korea for a while, what could they possibly teach us that we don't already know? I'm really hoping my school doesn't find out about this and send me out there

It's a WEIRD WEIRD week. I've never spent so long with such a diverse range of people. I couldn't say i learnt all that much, there were a couple of good lectures, one on cultural issues by David nam, the olf gepik liason dude and another by this big black dude about classroom management which was great, the rest of it is very blah blah blah zzzzzzzzzzzz. It's a good way to meet people but doesn't really prepare you for the reality of NESTing.


AND HEAR THIS LA VIDOR (or whatever the stupid name is of the resort hotel in suwon) YOUR FOOD FREAKIN SUCKS.

Now did they make complete strangers share a hotel room or did you have a room to yourself.

I ain't shared a room with a stranger since I dumped my back pack 5 or 6 years ago.
