How does this work? I finished working at a school, and they claim they're not involved with me recieving my pension. I don't believe them, but I don't know how the system works.

I have never had to collect my pension Sad but from what I have read on daves, it seems that your school is correct. It is up to you to visit the pension office and sort it out yourself.

I think you need to bring your passport, ARC and your ticket proving that you are leaving the country.

Your school has nothing to do with your pension refund.

YOU go to the pension office,
YOU fill in the application form.
YOU show your ARC, plane ticket out and deposit information when you want it sent.

The pension office will verify that you have left the country and forward your money to you in about a month.

They WILL tell you at the time of your application exactly how much your refund is and when to expect it (specific dates).

a bit off skew, but still related to pension.

Now that we are no longer getting a tax break, does that mean that the pension amounts go back to being based on our full salary?

Or.
You can show your stuff a few weeks earlier.
Get it before you leave.

anyone mind updating how to check your pension online? There is an old thread but it is no longer valid as the website has since changed.

You mention, "the pension office verify that you left the country". Does this mean for me to get my money sent that the pension office has to call my school? I thought my ARC card and contract showing the expiration date should be good enough. Confused

They confirm that your school has made all their contributions...

and via the computer (your ARC - they are a government office) verify that you have left the country.

You can come back (the next day even)... but you had to leave to get it (them's the rules).

So you are saying the pension office actually calls the school just to see if all the contributions have been made? Why would they have to call them to confirm this information? I thought the pension office keeps a month to month record of each contribution? They do not ask if I have left the country? Is that confirmed when I turn my ARC card in at the airport?

They will usually check to confirm that there are no contributions yet to be made on your behalf (assuming you actually6 have a pension account).
