I am new here and was wondering what is the go with health insurance? I understand different schools will be different but what does the basic/normal insurance cover?

How much does it cost to see a doctor in Seoul?

I know these questions are general but say I break my leg or something, how much am I looking at if I have to go to hospital?

A basic doctors visit (with medical insurance) is 3000 won.
Medical insurance also covers basic dentistry. A filling is 3000 won.

My co-worker last year tore his ACL playing rugby. His costs, including MRI, sugury, hospital stay, and 3 months daily rehab and physio therapy were about 2 million won.

My wife's prenatal care was about 500k won for 8 months (top notch care in a modern facility - even by western standards) and the delivery/hospital stay was another 500k.

Chances are that if you work for a hakwon you won't have to pay because they will avoid it at all costs.

This from the national health care website:

From 1, 2006, the National Health Insurance will be compulsory for all foreign workers in Korea

Because of the amendment of the National Health Insurance Act on Jul. 13, 2005, without relation to the type of Status of Stay, all foreign workers and overseas Koreans who work for an workplace in Korea shall automatically be the employee insured since 1 January, 2006.

If foreign workers made or will make their employment contract with their employer before 1 January, 2006, they will be the employee insured from 1 January, 2006, and if they will make the employment contract with their employer since 2 January, 2006, they will be the employee insured since the first date of employment.
