Why did she do this? This week was week 4 of the same lesson topic, and always on the 4th week I give them a wordsearch for the last 10-15 minutes. These are grade 3 students.

So, today they are working on the word searches and there is about 5 minutes left in class. Most students have about 5-10 of the 29 words, but there is this one girl with 27 of the words found, she was doing great! As their homeroom teacher is walking around watching (actually just showing them where words are) she comes up to this girl and shows her where the last two words are. WHY?????

Why would she do this? What's the point? Now this student was finished and asking me what she should do. I just don't understand why the teacher found the need to help the student who was clearly doing it twice as fast as every other student in the class. AAAAGHHHHHHH!!!

Rant over.

Wow! You did great. Won't you help Sally with her word search now, thank you very much you are such a wonderful helper.

Of course Sally really needs help, she is way behind and has only found 5 words.

Actually, that was what I had her do. It was more what the teacher did that I was ranting about. Although, asking kids here to help is not really helping because all they do is give the answers, just like the teacher did.

Wow. That was pretty thoughtless of her. No surprise though. When I did word searches, I would keep the class pretty even by going around and circling just the first letter of words for those who were falling behind.

Ah, I did the following to a class once. I photocopied two word searches, cut the word box off one, and pasted it on the other. It was really interesting to see which students perservered, trying to find words that simple weren't there, and the ones who just quite after five minutes. I showed them what I had done after and we had a good laugh. I did it one other time to a class who was annoying the crap out of me too. Silly thing to do, but I felt better Laughing .

I used to make a 'crazy word find' at the end of each month.
The first student to find all the words and give it to me the next day got 5000 won. It took them a few months to figure out there was always a word missing Smile
