1. Why do people say using international online ticket websites like expedia is a BAD idea in Korea? How is it different than using it when you are at home?

2. Is there really such a thing as a distinction to be made between two flights on the same ticket and two unconnected flights (based on airline alliances, code-sharing, etc...). Does this really matter? How do you find out of a ticket that you can buy online is a single ticket where your bags go on through, or two separate tickets where you have to get your bags at the stop-over airport, then check them and and go through customs one more time?

Most of the organizations that sell tickets (primarily e-tickets) in the US, such as Expedia, Travelocity etc. cannot sell tickets for flights originating outside of the US.
