Two questions for anyone who may know. Any input is really appreciated. The first concerns my chances for landing a university job for September, and the second concerns how many of those jobs are available for September as compared to the beginning of the school year:

1. Re. my chances: I will be applying from outside of the country. However, I do have a PhD (English lit.), a lot of uni experience (nothing glorified, but a lot of adjunct work in the U.S., including ESL, and a couple years at uni's in China -- also ESL adult ed. teaching for a public school system in the U.S.), and a Cambridge CELTA.

2. Re. availability of jobs for September: I've read a range of things about this on the forum -- on the one hand to the effect that little hiring is done for the September term, maybe only a few jobs in June or July; and on the other hand, that while more hiring is done for March, there's a good bit done for September also and uni job ads will be running from late April through the summer. Any input on which is more accurate or where in-between the reality lies?

I did get a uni job offer in '05 over the net, so that suggests something, althought that was in July. This year, for practical/logistical reasons, I might need to get an offer and know my plans a couple months earlier than that.

Thanks a lot for any input.... mep

With an English Ph.D and all of your international teaching experience you are definitely marketable for the best jobs in Korea. You may want to talk to user PRagic, who is a Ph.D instructor here. He could probably help you with what to look for exactly.

Just come here do your search. They want to see you in person. Then you will have no problem (unless you have lots of tattoos, are non-white, or scary looking).

Back home uni starts in September...not here.

You'll be applying mid-year. The only uni that will hire you is onethat needs a teacher ASAP. With you out of the country they might pick someone else.

Can you wait and try for a job starting March? That's the main hiring season.

If I come there to do my search, I wouldn't be able to arrive until about July 20 because of my current teaching gig. Is that too late or would I still have no problem? Thx .... mep
