For those following my previous crazy situation (see links), here is an update, since some of you seemed concerned:

Housing: They are giving me a smallish (but still two bedroom!) house in a neighboring village to live in. It has AC (my current apt. does not), internet, etc. The downside is that it's 6km away from the main town on the island, but there is a semi-regular bus (about 8 a day) and I am buying a moped anyway, and I really like rural areas, and it's fine. Plus, the house is only a 3 minute walk from one of the schools I work at, and it's the prettiest part of the island. If I like it, I can choose to stay there even if they finish fixing my apartment building (it has structural issues, which is why I'm moving in the first place).
Textbook writing: They are paying me an extra 2,000,000won to write it, now, and are allowing me to only work one camp in the summer instead of two.
Bitchy Supervisor: Because I will be living in a different part of the island, and because the buses are only semi-regular, I will not be made to go to the office of education every day, and thus will only deal with her once a week. This also means that my schedule will solidify, as I will have to be informed at least the night before of any changes, and if a school is closed , they will not easily be able to just send me to a different one. So, I'll probably end up getting at least 2 days off a month, due to that.
So, things are definitely working out, and so I think that I'm probably just going to stick around here, since I like my kids and coworkers and co-teacher. |

That's cool. You have made some progress there. Stay cool professional, even when someone wants to be a cunt, and in the end, you will prevail. You, as I am, are obviously mroe concerned with quality of living that absolute earning power, which I think is great.
The cunt at the office. Smile, say "Hi, thank you very much, I think that'a great idea, we should have dinner together and talk about it.." should properly scare her off. |

I think she'd understand "thank you" and "idea" and "talk", but that's about it. Her English isn't that great.'
And actually, I'd rather be in a less-convenient living situation and earning more money, but the money I would earn by taking a job that had available overtime would probably be nullified by the amount of money it would cost to transfer jobs. |

Exactly. Just happy talk at her a mile a minute, watch her backpedal as her eyes get big. |

That's good news DF. Just out of interest did the changes in the living arrangements & so on come about by coincidence or did you talk to someone about it? Either way it's a good result & I'm pleased for you.
I can just imagine you rocking a moped! |

Oh, they came after several frustrated but polite emails in which I threatened to quit. |

It helped that I went into the office with an index card with the words "Labor Office" and "Lawyer" on it, with corresponding numbers (which were real), and when she started to fuss, I pointed at the card and picked up the phone (and it wasn't a bluff, I would call), and boy, that got her to change her tone *real* quick, especially since according to both my co-teachers and the other foreigners here, if I leave or get fired, I'll take her with me, due to prior problems they have had with her.
I think in my previous post, people misunderstood me as being spineless. I am anything but, believe me. |
