right. i am gonna come to korea on a tourist visa and then do a visa run to japan. the problem is i don't have my original degree cert. (only a copy - which i can get notarised at my embassy before i come) and it could take as long as 4 weeks for a replacement to arrive.
my university say they can provide what is known as a "statement of qualification" in the meantime. would this suffice?
about the transcripts: they are quite picky about them being sealed aren't they - this is a new one to me!! |

The "statement of qualification" will not suffice. If you don't have the original for the Korean consulate to compare your copy to, they won't CERTIFY it.
A notarized copy is NOT sufficient. It must be certified by the Korean consulate NOT notarized by your embassy.
The same with transcripts. They must be in an official university envelope, closed and sealed with a stamp/signature indicating that they are NOT official if the envelope is opened.
Guess you will have to wait for the new ones from your uni.
You don't need to take my word for it. Feel free to submit whatever you think will work. It wouldn't be the first set that immigration has refused and I am sure it won't be the last set. It may even be the set that proves to be the exception to the rule. |

got this back from the employer:
I have been informed that while you can get your visa with a notarized degree, we absolutely need your original degree in order to register you with the Ministry of Education. Please inquire with your university to see if you are able to get your degree any sooner as without it, you would still be technically working illegally. |

The Korean consul won't note it unless they can see the original. Can you read? |

yes, indeed. i can read.
it just sounded daft to me that's all. you can get a replacement degree cert issued by obtaining the notarial services of the embassy when you show them your passport so i would have thought they could notarize a copy of a cert on production of one's passport.
