I find that it is really motivating and helpful in getting students producing language, if the teacher offers them materials which draw on their own cultural knowledge. This can be through their own store house of traditional stories or through pictures/materials which access their own cultural knowledge.
It stimulates their learning, quickens it -- because they already know so much of the context and they just have to match and fill in the blanks, crudely speaking.
I've posted up on my More Videos folder, a few of the top prized blogger multimedia productions about Dynamic Korea. Held by www.korea.net (which for some reason is down....so you'll have to use my site but keep trying). Some really cool stuff.

It is great for stimulating student writing or discussion. Or as a whole class activity, simply pause the video and ask basic comprehension/discussion questions about the scene;
Where is it?
Have you been there?
What is it?
etc.....
I also use Korean karaoke from time to time. I'll be downloading much more of this in the near future. Song is in Korean but the text mostly in translated English....

Some of those look interesting, but I can't seem to download most properly.
As a suggestion, if you're creating a number of these, might it be possible to make just a few, but in an easier format, and with English and Hanguel subtitles? That would make them really easy to present to a mixed-level class. |

I did a task this morning about festivals and holidays around the world. The last exercise was talk to talk about three Korean holidays. The students really got into it.

Might be your connection or maybe my problem when loading them up....who knows. I'll check. And I do want to put some subtitles to them, when I have a moment to spare. These days, super busy.......but I will try and need the experience of editing movies, I'm trying to upgrade my multi media skills....
The site seems to be up, in any case. But you can't download them unless you use WM 11 . But take a look directly at http://www.korea.net/event/event_20070330/ucc_contents_list.asp
Ilovebdt -- isn't it great when students get motivated by the topic alone???? Sure helps a lot and one reason why I think it is great if teachers can use their cultural knowledge as more of a stepping start....
