Tonight, a girlfriend was really giving me total Hell about something and I was getting verbally beat down pretty badly. She was being unreasonable and just would not shut up. So, I figured it was necessary to serve her a nice cool cup of STFU by mentioning something that I hadn't talked with her about before.
She had sent me an e-mail a while back with some really sexy photos attached. That was great, but it was piggybacked onto an earlier e-mail to some other guy with a message that wasn't in English. I went to a chatroom for a translation and it ends up that it read, "Make it your own stuff, baby. Don't let your parents see it. If you don't keep your words, I'll hate you!" On one hand, I was really jealous because this girl is so hot, I'd prefer to not share. On the other hand, I found it amusing that some guy, probably some teenage boy, is scoring with this model-quality 26 year old chick. I've been the "other guy" a lot of times in years past, so I just have to accept that what goes around comes around. This time, I'm the old decrepit lion getting his kitty used by some upstart cub. Such is life in the animal kingdom.
Anyway, she was still laying into me, so I finally unleashed my ace in the hole that I had up my sleeve, "Maybe if you weren't sending sexy photos to boys..."
Her face turned really red and she got even more livid and was saying that what she did was perfectly fine and normal, that I couldn't understand since I'm foreign. I reminded her that, in her own words, she didn't think his parents would understand either. She got even angrier and kept telling me that I just don't understand the culture.
Has anyone else had a girlfriend or boyfriend play the culture card? |

So many times I lost count. I think I had it happen once or twice today. It's the most common excuse, I file it right up there with not being able to understand nunchi[/i]:

Wait a sec... Your girlfriend is playing around behind your back and your only concern is "the race card"? |

And apparently playing around with someone of a rather tender age, no? "Make sure Mommy doesn't find these on your hard drive" ?
What does the OP mean by "scoring"? Do you think they've actually met, or do you assume this is "online scoring"?

To be perfectly honest, I'd have LOVED for some hot woman of 26 to send me really sexy photos of herself when I was a teenager. I was uninterested in girls my own age then. But this "you foreigners can't understand our culture" line is laughable. |

Sorry, but culture in this case is a sorry excuse. If you are seeing someone, and you go and send racy pics of yourself to another guy, a teen guy at that then you have problems. |

Okay, I re-read the OP. We both seem to have missed this:

World of difference. So now, yeah, the "culture/race card" focus of OP is understandable. |

this is a lot like a situation i was in a couple of years back. i was dating a really beautiful girl who turned out to be a complete liar. i heard her on the phone saying '사랑해' to some guy, of course she assumed i wouldn't understand.. i challenged her on it and she said 'oh, this is korea! you don't understand!' etc etc.. so i just got rid of her. there's no cultural difference that can explain cheating. cheating is cheating in korea like it is anywhere else. another time before that, she asked me to give her 'pocket money', saying 'this is korea, all korean boyfriends do this', which of course is absolute bull since i know plenty of korean guys who would have the same reaction as me.
sometimes people use culture as an excuse for all kinds of misbehaviour, especially when it comes to sex or money, in my opinion.
of course if you're just having your fun with this girl, then play on.. it seems neither of you respect each other anyway, so maybe its not a bad arrangement if you don't mind the lying. |

Lol, about that guy living with his parents, in Korea that does not mean anything about his age, just that he is unmarried. I rather think the guy would be in his 30's.
There, you've just been culture carded again!
By the way, this whole thread just reminded me of why I became allergic to princess types. |

No doubt. And his parents still monitor his online activity. And the girl saying "don't let your parents see them or I'll hate you!" is a fair and accurate example of how mature, adult Koreans speak to each other. Agreed, 30s sounds just right. |

Is it bad that I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not? Is that a poor reflection on me, or on Korea? Both? |

Let you in on a little secret, Scott. I'll be damned if I can tell either. Luckily, it works both ways, so I've got an escape hatch if I need it. |
