SO I could really use some advice from you experienced teachers out there. I teach at a hogwan where most of my classes are full of elementary students. These classes I have a wonderful time teaching because they are easy to motivate and joke around with. The problem I have is with one class that I have that is mostly teenagers. It is a speaking class but the book I have for the class is useless and I find these students very hard to motivate. The book is Star Team. It has a lot of the material focusing on grammar and reading. There is some stuff related to listening and speaking but it is often really boring and easy for the students. I forgot to mention that the students in this class are at an intermediate level. Their English is pretty good and I can sometimes have open conversations with them. I have had some success with this. They seemed really interested when I started talking about western pop culture. I could really use some help with this class as I feel like I'm drowning. I would greatly appreciate any activities or other teaching resources out there that would help me. |

Try finding some of the latest and most popular comic books (Korean) they all read.
Make a photocopy and "white-out" the dialog(ue). Have them write their own story line and dialog in pairs in English.
Then have them read them aloud in pairs. Make it a contest to see which pair gets the most laughs/applause.
When they start to get bored with that, have them say/act out the dialog without writing it (ad lib).
Nothing works for long at that age.... |

You could also try the karaoke path, click on the link on my website below. If you have a computer and screen. Read the folder info. and see how easy it is to set this up....
Lots of cool songs and start with maybe something Korean. Perform songs in part, each group sings a part together. Hug by DBSG works well and just started putting up some new Korean songs, more Epik High and Jang Ra Na....
This will motivate them....and plus, they can practice at home for performance in class..
