My hagwan claims they can't get me a single apartment within walking distance of the school because they don't have any single apartments in this area. To give you an idea where my school is, it's about a 20 minute walk from the World Meridian apartments. There are several large apartment buildings that I pass on the way to work. Is there anyone on here who lives in a single in Dongtan (or knows someone who does)? If so, could you give me the name of the apartment building? Thanks for any help. |

Don't the school owners mean THEY don't have any single apartments there, not that there aren't any at all?
If the school policy is sharing then maybe you could ask about a housing allowance and find your own place? (And before anyone squawks about the massive deposit required...I live in Seoul and paid NO DEPOSIT, just 6 months rent upfront.
No idea where Dongtan is though.... |

*warning the following post is based purely on conjecture*
All the apartments I've seen in Dongtan are of the Tall highrise kind, which I believe aren't single-bedroom/studio apartments, those types of apartments are generally in "villa's" which are 5 or so story buildings. I havent seen any of those in Dongtan. (I've actually had this discussion with a few of my m8s... Why do we ALL work in Dongtan, but live elsewhere.)
That being said, I've met one or two teachers in Dongtan who do infact live in Dongtan, so there must be a couple of single apartments somewhere.
Btw, where are you currently staying? Take the commute out of the equation, I certainly wouldnt want to live in Dongtan right now, there's not much there and its all being built, or in the process of being occupied. (In a year or two might be a different story...)
EDIT: For the other posters, Dongtan is part of Hwaseong city... Just South (or south-west?) of Suwon. |

In dongton there is an area of 3, 4 and 5 story villas. This would be a walk from the business area where the hogwons are located, but can be bused with ease. Still these villas are most likely two bedrooms, but it would be worth looking for something smaller in this area. You other choice would be in Beumjum, and bus it in. |
