Well, I took the plunge. The cost actually went down 10,000 won today at the same store (different salesperson -- ha).

530,000 for the PS3
35,000 for extra wifi controller
25,000 for Casino Royale on Bluray.

Wow, it looks great.

Downloading some free game demos in the background while I watch the Bluray (Resistance: Fall of Man and a racing game I can't remember).

The Sony online system is free. It works via wifi (glad I got wifi).

I am happy.

Awesome! Congrats gsx. I hope you enjoy it. Nice deal at 530K, too.

Oh.... I better not tell you that, because this place has no locks on the doors, no windows, and only three vicious pit bulls to guard it.

You should download the F@home client.

Sweet. If you downloaded the Motorstorm demo, let me know how you like it. I never cared for racing games before, but that game rocks my world. Resistance is also addicting as all hell, but I'm not extremely competitive at FPS games online. I didn't really like the other racing demos I downloaded (Full Auto or something, Ridge Racer, Gran Turismo HD, Gripshift), so I hope you got the good one.

I think I would prefer to use a wired connection, because from Korea you'd want to get the absolute fastest connection possible. I'm just speculating, but I have never seen a hint of lag online with my wired connection. Wifi with the PSP is an entirely different story (not to compare the hardware specs of the two directly, however...). That and the fact that my apartment, albeit nice and new, is the size of my attic back home, make wireless internet seem more detrimental than useful personally.

Have fun! Have you ordered any games yet?

Oh, and folding@home is automatically included with the newest software update. Interesting anomaly, using a video game machine to do good.

I downloaded several demos today.

I'm not much on FPS's either. They're almost too hard to be fun anymore (yeah, I'm getting old). Difficult for me to think fast enough with so many controller options available. Fall of Man is really cool, but man... HARD. I'm out of shape with playing that sort of thing. I'll have to mess with it some more.

I found I love Def Jam: ICON. It's simple to play, funny, has really cool graphics and music, and I'm interested in seeing more. Apparently, you choose hip-hop stars and have them face-off and beat the hell out of each other? Man, those look like real people! It's hilariously weird, and just violently fun. I will probably get it. I wonder if Snoop Dogg is one of the fighters? I thought I read that the full version has popular hip-hop stars in it?

The gf will come over tomorrow, if she's not overworked, and we'll kick the shite out of each other in that game, and laugh all the way. Laughing

And did you see the Korean shop owner that jumps out and sprays you with a fire extinguisher if you break his window? Ha!

I liked Major League Baseball 2K7. It took me 30 minutes to figure out I have to swing the sixaxis controller like a wii to get a hit. I might buy this one. Graphics aren't all that great everyplace, but it's fun.

Oh, btw, I read not to buy Madden 2007, because it doesn't even have Madden's voice!

Free game preview downloads are awesome!

That's too bad since the system will be dead within a year.

Should've gone with a wii.

Yeah I'm very pessimistic about the system as well. All the games I've tried are just okay at best. It'll be at least a year before the really good games come out. There was a frenzy in the US at launch, but since then the PS3 has gotten a lot of bad press. I think most people are buying it because of the blue-ray, which is cheaper than other blue ray players. That said, the system has a lot of potential - and probably looks awesome on an LCD HDTV.

wii!!

If you're stuck with an SD tv!! or 12!

I'd say they almost completely different markets, but that's been discussed at length on other posts. Does the wii have online play yet? And no, I don't want to play POKEMON online multiplayer. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Interesting thought, though: Here in Korea, even where the chipped PS2s rule the console landscape, the wii should do well, considering everyone lives with their parents...

I'm sure the wii is a lot of fun. 360 too.

I'm having a blast with some of these demos. Hate it if you want -- it's fun for me! I just need more time in the day.

Hey, Motorstorm is great... just tried the demo this morning, Smog.

haha...no hate.

I'm just skeptical about the ps3, blueray, hdtv and the whole lot. I feel like people are being suckered out of a ton of cash for not a whole lot of improvement.

Nah, I don't mind people not digging the PS3. It is expensive, but not compared to gaming PCs, or other HD equipment in general.

There is a big difference, though, between HDTV and SD, IMO. It is a lot of money, though. Good thing I have a bunch of disposable income!

Well, I now wish I had partitioned my HD from the beginning, and added Linux. I'm anxious to try that. I wonder how it would work out at 1080p with Linux... wonder if drivers are around to run it on my TV via HDMI?

Questions all to be answered, I guess.
