A government report warned that most forests on the Korean Peninsula could die if the average temperature increases 6 degrees Celsius by the end of the century.

Yeah, global warming is bad... etc., don't need to argue that. But...

Come on, guys, don't you think a rise of 6 degrees celsius is a bit alarmist to be talking about happening right now? Hell, why not just say, "A rise of 100 degrees celsius will cause the entire Earth to turn into a ball of flames."

Six degrees celsius?

A hell of a lot more would be happening in this world after a rise of 3 degrees celsius before Korea would have to worry about its trees disappearing!

I don't think talking about the end of the century is alarmist. They are just stating the scientists concludions (based on what you wrote, I didn't read TFA).

A rise in ocean temperatures by 1 degree can kill the coral, which would send a terrible chain reaction through the ocean's and Earth's ecosystem. It's not alarmist yet, but it's time governments and societies start doing something about it.

Exactly. A rise in 1 degree will do that...

... so what would happen after 6 degrees?

Overdone. Purely throwing out huge numbers for reactions.

We'd probably be near death from overheating globally before we hit 6 degrees... who'd care about the trees by then?

Gore was called-out for this kind of overstating, recently.

Yeah, I guess it is quite alarmist.

I'd say that's a good thing.

It's a pretty alarming situation.

You're right, it's not the best written example of journalism in the world.

But it is quite effective in painting a clear picture with words of exactly what the situation is for us right here, in the not very distant future.

Yeah, you could probably do a lot better. And I would actually like to know more, from you or any other knowledgeable authority.

The thing is, it's about time that something that clear was written and published in local mainstream media that states exactly and specifically what the ramifications are of not dealing with climate warming - whether man-made or not.

One of my students is about to give a speech about the predicted advent of the danger of super-typhoons to the peninsular as a result of global warming.

I'll have to check he knows his source of information, but, I guess there is a bit starting to get through to the general population.

The more the merrier... so to speak.
