It's interesting to notice the various ways past Bond movie titles have been translated into Korean.

Sometimes it's been an exact phonetic translation, thus keeping the English pronunciation (bold faced). Examples- Goldfinger, View To A Kill

Other times, choice words of the original title have been phonetically titled. Examples- Never Die, Another Day

Other times (and I find these most interesting!!) a meaning-based translation was done, thus changing the title into Korean words, with varies degrees of success in keeping the original English meaning and nuances. Example- 두번 산다 (Two Times Live- You Only Live Twice), 위기일발 (Escape a Difficult Situation- From Russia With Love), 살인 번호 (Killer Number- Dr. No)

In one example (The World Is Not Enough), a completely different English word is used for the Korean title (언리미티드- Unlimited).

In hindsight, seems like since the 1980's, whoever was/is in charge of such things has chosen a phonetic translation of some kind, thus keeping a version of the original English title.

Nice work. Movie title translations is an interesting topic, and 007 films are a good way of demonstrating several techniques.

Yes. I find it interesting that in more than half of the movies, the title has been altered in some way from the original English.

Also, up until the 1980's, most films were given a Korean translation, rather than a version of the phonetic English. Possibly because English didn't have the 'status' quality yet in Korea that increased in the 80's.

Sorry to be so harsh on you but I reckon you have a niche interest. That makes for an interesting personality but not a lot of people on this website can relate to your interest.

The aspect of your post that I am interested in is how words have different impact on the collective social unconscious depending on our conditioning. If an American was to watch an American 80's ad. he'd think it was lame. But the ads that have subconscious influence over Americans at the moment are going to be percieved as lame in about 5 years time.

I reckon the Korean titles are changed for advertising purposes, not for linguistic accuracy. The same goes for any of those slogans us foreigners are vexed about.

Power words, not linguistic accuracy sells products.
