I feel like a fool having to ask this, but what types of shoes should I bring with me when I leave my home country? I have a pair of dress shoes (slip ons, I've heard laces are a bad idea. to wear with my semi-formal wear (I don't have a suit) that I'll wear to teach, but I understand that I'll need different types of shoes to wear inside the school.
Will simple moccasin style slippers work, or is there some special type of indoor slipper that I can only get in Korea? I've also got several pairs of open toe sandals, will these be suitable?
Let me know what you think, I'll be teaching in a Public School in Gwangyang. |

I brought Kenneth Cole Reaction, Steve Madden Mammba (both slip on and can be used for dress or casual) in black and another pair of brown dress shoes. Also brought a pair of sneakers, and a pair of hiking shoes (Not boots). I think it all depends on the individual. You can buy shoes here though. I only brought all those shoes because we shipped our stuff over on a container ship.
As for slippers, the cheap kind are sold everywhere here. But I did bring house slippers. I couldn't find Korean slippers that would fit me. |

Don't overthink it, my friend! Wear whatever the hell you want. Anybody who's told you to worry about "laces? velcro? slip-ons?" or whatevs, well, they're fukt, and shouled best be ignored. If you're hungry for things to worry about, no doubt you'll find some. But really, there's better things to twitch out over!
In a public school, you can wear whatever the hell you want. If anybody gives you beef whip off your slipper and slap up-head-wise a bunch of times, and they'll shut up.
If you got weird feet, tho, bring your own size. I'm 13 wide, and i got a pretty limited selection, as far as domestics go. |

a pair of good sneakers (you'll probably be walking a lot). Don't worry about having laces or not...mine had laces, but I could still slip them on and off.
a pair of dress shoes. Just in case you need to dress up once in a while.
a pair of sandals. A lot of Korean showers simply drain into the bathroom floor (aka no tub) also, my washing machine was in the bathroom and it also drained in the floor. I don't know about you, but I didn't want to walk around in there barefoot. |

If you're over size 11, bring any shoes that fit your feet.
