hello, i just arrived in bundang. thank you to the numerous people on this forum who posted answers to my previous questions.
i have a few comments and questions first:
i dont start working til sept 1, but have seen the hagwon, BRAND new, very nice looking and excellent location next to an elementary school and HUGE apartment complex.
my pay and hours are good, or supposedly will be atleast.
the director is a young nice guy and i like him.
my apartment is maybe 8 x10 feet in the basement, WTF? i am not an a-hole. i am not going off the bat about this small apartment. BUT, is this a normal size? i mean seriously, this is SMALL. i know bundang is ritzy and expensive, and take that into account, havent complained yet, and i am going to wait and see what materializes with this position but if anyone in bundang could tell me what size their apartment is and/or what they feel is average for an esl teacher i would really appreciate it.
also i would like like to meet anyone around here. i know absolutely no one in this part of korea and would like to meet some people, see what their experences are, kick it, etc. in bundang or elsewhere around seoul for that matter.
if anyone has a response to this you can pm me if you prefer.
thanks again everyone.

ps- does anyone know where a sweet sauna is in bundan, near the bmw dealership and seould language institute, or one of them atleast?

What part of Bundang are you in? My apt. there wasn't that small, but I know a few people who had places smaller than yours.
Which subway station are you near? I lived near Migeum at first, then my school got me a nicer place near Seohyun. Posse in Seohyun gets a fair amount of teachers, but doesn't sell pitchers, so it's more expensive for drinking. Near Migeum, check out Beer Town or the Cass & Rock. |

He lives in Jeongja-dong by the description. And sounds like he's the one who stole the position I was about to take, only to be told it was just filled!
Don't freak out about your apartment. You're obviously in a villa in Jeongja-dong and that is the average size everyone gets in that area. Unless you're in one of the crappy dorm-style Villa's in that area.
Do you have your own kitchen and washing machine? If so, your apartment is standard. If you share a kitchen with the entire floor of your building then you're in one of the tiny dorm-style rooms and I'd complain.
Be thankful you're in the basement, I had a basement villa apartment and it was the best thing ever. First of all, there is less noise, second its alot cooler in the Summer and alot warmer in the Winter. Last Winter I never had to turn my heat on once because only my kitchen was exposed to the outside and I had a sliding door that seperated it from the rest of the apartment. In the Summer the apartment was alot less humid and only had my Fan on at night for about a month.
As for Saunas, there are a bunch in the area, you need to look for a red circle with 3 red squiggly lines going vertical from it.. like rising heat.
If you head east from Pizza Hut/BMW/Seoul Language Institute turn right at the first lights and walk straight till you come to the Daewoo dealership, across from the dealership is another building with a florist and pharmacist on the ground floor... in that building is a Bath/Sauna, top floor I believe.
No real set "hangout" in Bundang where foreigners gather... but go to Samsung Plaza/Seohyun Station on a Friday/Saturday night and troll the bars, you'll run into people. As mentioned, Posse attracts a bunch of foreigners and the bartenders are cool guys, they often perform free shows and do contests and giveaways. Dixie also attracts teachers, but its a bit harder to mingle in there.
I'm arriving back in Bundang in a week, so if you wanna PM me with your phone # I'll give you a call when I arrive and go for a beer/show you around. There are several other teachers from this board in Bundang right now that I plan to meet up with, so we can make it a good night out. |

My apartment in a Jeongja-dong villa is a bit larger than that. About 12x20 not including the bathroom but I don't have a laundry area. They just combined the bathroom laundry area. Yours sounds small compared with most of my friends. They live in the area too and are all around 12x15 or larger. I usually only hang out around Migeum here in Bundang. Less so at Samsung Plaza. There are a lot of teachers around Migeum. Last estimate was about half a billion hagwons in and around Migeum station. There are usually a few foriegn teachers up on the fourth floor bar called The Pit or 피투. It is above the KFC. Also sometimes at the WA Bar or Jokki Jokki behind the building with KFC. Send me a PM for more info. |

Man, sounds like the hole I lived in for a year...Never said anything about it to my boss, and I was sold when someone pointed out the fact that if I invited a girl over, she'd have no choice but to sit on the bed...
Anyhow, it's a decent locale. I myself am back home now, just finished up. There's little explanation as to why I feel the urge to go back for a second year, but something in Korea must have been good...hmm.... |

Ah, good ole Jeongja(sperm)-dong, stompin' grounds of Tibs, his lovely wife and their new daughter, Rapzilla.
If you're in the section of Jeongja (and their are Jeongja-dongs 1 and 2) also referred to as mokja(let's eat) alley, then you got a raw deal. That place is like some sh*t area of Seoul invading the beauty and peacefulness of Bundang.

Jungja-dong is pretty cool. There are tons of foreigners here and most of them are nice. Watch out for renegade norebangs here though. Most of them don't like us.
Actually, the sperm dong is not that bad. It is like most of Korea and not the high class bs that most of Bundang is. |

Sounds like most of the foreigners that work in Bundang live in JeongJa-dong.
I was there in a yeogwan for a month working during intensives.
I wasn't too impressed with the area. Very cheap. I'm working out my contract so I don't hafta do that again.

Been here 1 1/2 weeks, and I find it boring because I haven't started work yet, either. Been taking a lot of trips to Seoul on 9000 and 45-2 lately. The apartment I have is very nice, but very small, too. |
