I hope someone can help. I go for my health exam soon.
Will having high cholesterol be cause for sending me home?
Can they send me home for being overweight?
Thanks. |

They should not, my cholesterol was at 275 when I took my health exam and my school still took me. |

I once had a BP reading that went through the roof 180/100. Since I've been on the meds its down to 120/80. This would pass the current exam.
I believe H.C. is similar start on the meds now and it should be normal for the actual exam. |

They won't send you home. They will just call you fatty. |

Dude, this is Korea:
Situation 1:
A) I'm an alcoholic.
B) Ah, so does that mean you can drink a lot? I can drink two bottles of soju. You?
A) No, that means I shouldn't drink.
B) Ah, that's funny. Of course you can drink.
Situation 2:
A) I have high cholesterol.
B) Ah, well, we're having samgyupsal for dinner. Very good.
A) Actually, that means I shouldn't eat fatty foods.
B) Ah, well, that's ok, because we eat lots of kimchi with it. Or you can wrap it in lettuce, which is very good for you.
Situation 3:
A) I quit smoking.
B) Really? How?
A) I just quit.
B) Oh, you are a scary man. Tough personality.
A) Not really.
B) Then smoke. I won't tell your wife. Here.
In so many ways, this is a great country to be. In so many ways, it makes being here healthy so very hard to do. |

Generally, under 120 is considered safe. However, there are two different types of cholesterol, LDL and HDL; one of them is 'good', and the other is 'bad'. If your bad cholesterol is abnormally high, even if your total cholesterol is under 120, it can be cause for concern.
The way I look at it, if you're ballpark 120s, you're cool. Then again, I'm not a physician, I'm just a guy who loves red meat and booze! |

IN THEORY...what is supposed to be reported to immigration is this:
AIDS test... positive or negative
drug use test....positive or negative
liver function....good (not alcoholic) or bad (suspected alcoholic)
TB test...positive or negative
Although they took my height, weight, tested my hearing, blood pressure, eyesight, etc. none of this appeared on the results transmitted to Immigration.
I understand there may be some additional stuff for public school teachers but I don't know much about that. |
