Has anyone received a cash equivalent for a ticket home in lieu of the actual ticket from GEPIK? or does anyone know the official stance GEPIK would take on this? I'm not going home and told them i want a return ticket to thailand, but my accountant said he would give me a one way ticket but not return so i might just try to get the cash for a full ticket home which i imagine would be about double.

You should've purchased the refundable ticket to your home (one way) which is probably way way more than roundtrip ticket to Thailand.

Get it reimbursed, cancel the ticket home, and rebook for Thailand. You'll have money left over for your extended vacation. Wink

I doubt they would give you hard cash, being GEPIK they will probably need to see receipts etc.

I'm was trying to arrange something similar, as I'm also not returning home and want to go travelling before coming back here in July/August time. I heard that refundable tickets can be a bit of a headache, depending on where you buy them from. Another poster in another thread said he had to wait up to 2 months to get the cash reimbursed to him. Are there any travel agents that would just sell you a reciept in exchange for a crate of soju and perhaps 100,000won? That'd do me!

Buy a ticket to Thailand and a scanner/printer.

Then just scan the thai ticket and manufacture a ticket home Very Happy

My co-worker purchased a refundable ticket home.
He then submitted copies of the ticket and receipts (you have to keep the originals until after the flight).
He was reimbursed on his last contract day.
He then returned the ticket and got a refund.

Bear in mind however that many travel agents have a 30-day hold on cash refunds.

If you use a credit card and buy direct from the airline you get credited back in 3 working days after you return the ticket.

deal directly with Korean Air. It'll cost you 30k, but they'll refund your ticket straight away.

Not that I did anything like that.. *cough*

If you renew and don't use the ticket they give it to you in cash.
