Anna Nicole Smith died this afternoon.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17050167/?GT1=9033

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - Anna Nicole Smith, the former Playboy playmate whose bizarre life careened from marrying an octogenarian billionaire to the untimely death of her son, died Thursday after collapsing at a South Florida hotel, one of her lawyers said.

Smith, 39, collapsed and was unresponsive while staying at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino, said the attorney, Ron Rale. She was rushed to a hospital.

I can confirm that she is deceased. Its as shocking to me as to you guys, Rale told Reuters. I dont know anything further. (Her lawyer and husband) Howard (K. Stern) obviously is speechless and grieving.

She died at a much earlier age than the man she married for his money. She seemed like a nice enough girl. It may turn out she died due to the same causes linked to the death of her son. I can understand there are pressures but taking certain substances can be playing with fire. I hope she rests in peace. It is too bad that she died. I am sure there were many good things she could have done.

That little girl of hers had better watch out. These sorts of things usually happen in threes.

Call me cold hearted, but I'm having trouble feeling sympathy for a coke-head who's only contribution to the world was big *beep* and a that she was a successful gold-digger.

I was surprised that everyone was sending their respect, but then came the last 2 posts. Why do so many people feel the need to bash this woman? SHES DEAD SHES NOT COMING BACK. She wasnt the brightest girl, but she did seam to be real, especially in Hollywood. Her show proved that. I was not a big fan but come on, someone died. She didnt kill anyone, she wasnt a horrible person. It was a sad ending for her and you feel the need to sound off about her marrying rich. It happens everyday, have you never seen a hot babe with an old weirdo? This board never ceases to amaze me, so many haters.

Howard K. Stern Hires Ramsey Parents' Lawyer
POSTED: 2252 GMT (0652 HKT), April 9, 2007

ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- Anna Nicole Smith's lawyer-turned-partner has hired a prominent Atlanta attorney to represent him in possible litigation against media companies he believes are falsely implicating him in the death of the former Playboy Playmate and her son, Daniel.

Lin Wood said he had been retained by Howard K. Stern, who is one of three men claiming to be the father of the starlet's infant daughter.

Wood, who has handled a number of high profile cases -- including representing the family of slain child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey -- made the announcement in a statement released Monday.

The statement said Wood was retained after meetings over the weekend in the Bahamas, where Smith and Stern lived as a couple before her death in February.

"My representation of Mr. Stern will focus on those individuals and entities guilty of making false accusations of criminal conduct against him related to the tragic deaths of Anna Nicole Smith and her son, Daniel," Wood said in the release.

"Mr. Stern is an innocent individual who has never been charged with any crime but finds himself on trial in the media. The nightly television, tabloid and Internet trial of Mr. Stern in the court of public opinion based on sensational lies, speculation, rumor and gossip is over."

Daniel Smith died September 10 as he visited his mother three days after she gave birth in a Nassau hospital to her daughter, Dannielynn.

Stern, who was Smith's companion at the time of her death, is listed on Dannielynn's birth certificate as her father. But two other men -- Smith's former boyfriend Larry Birkhead and Frederic Von Anhalt, Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband, also claim to have fathered the infant.

The dispute has led to a drawn-out legal battle.

In the release, Wood also said he would represent Stern, named the executor of Smith's will, in pursuing "those individuals and entities responsible for the theft of personal property of Ms. Smith and/or its unlawful use, sale or other misappropriation in the media."

Dr. Joshua Perper, the Broward County medical examiner, ruled that Smith died of an accidental overdose of the sleeping "medication" chloral hydrate and at least eight other prescription drugs, along with a case of the flu and a bacterial infection from injecting drugs into her buttocks.

Smith had been taking a lengthy list of medications, including methadone and valium, but those drugs were at therapeutic levels, Perper said. Smith also had been on several antidepressant and antianxiety drugs and had recently taken longevity medications, vitamin B12 and growth hormone, the medical examiner said.

The release of the report marked the end of the Seminole Police Department's investigation and halted -- at least temporarily -- widespread rumors that Smith may have been murdered.

"The medical examiner concluded that the death of Anna Nicole Smith was accidental," Wood said in the release. "No one has produced any evidence to rebut this conclusion because no such evidence exists.

"To those considering making future false accusations against Mr. Stern, please consider the following advice: don't do it."

It makes perfect sense.

Anna was rich, supposedly left it all to Daniel in her will.

With Daniel dead, the money should instead go to Dannielynn and Anna's parents.

Stern marries Anna, adopts Dannielynn. If Anna changes her will, great. If not, Stern gets control over Anna's money anyway (the "Onassis gambit").

The fly in the ointment is the paternity issue because Anna died before Stern could adopt the girl.

It will be interesting to see how the whole thing plays out. Certainly the money issue is complex because the whole thing with her ex-husbands will still isn't resolved.

My guess is if Stern is the father, the story will probably die quickly. If Birkhead or someone else is the father we'll see more court battles.
