does this exist in korea? i never see it. i've had my eyes peeled for good upright lamps since i've been here and i've seen none. i swear, the flourescent light fixtures in my apartment are sucking the life out of me. it wouldn't be so bad if i didn't have to deal with the same crap during work all the time. |

You'll have to get used to it. Although incandescents are still around, they are on the way out. Many places (like California) are banning them for their gross inefficiency. There are different levels of warmth in fluorescents though. Look at the colour temperature level on the package and buy something below 2700K. If that doesn't work for you, you can still buy incandescents in the stores (They are under 1,000won each, but the energy costs negate any savings within a few months.)
You can buy upright lamps at places like Homever in the furniture department, though they are expensive and VERY tacky. The 'light district' seems to be in Yongsan. Go as if you were going to the electronics market and turn left at the lights at the top of the hill instead of right. Keep walking down that street for a bit and you will see some lighting shops. |

I use my bedside lamp for incadescent lighting. It's an Emart special on my bedside table and I love it. A cozy evening at home isn't possible under the flourescents. 60 watts, three stage dimmer, 'bout 20 grand. |
