Hi all!
I'm sorry, I know this has been discussed before but the search function on here is shockingly bad, and I'm pregnant so brain doesn't work as well as normal. Forgive me!! I'd be interested to hear from the yummy mummies in Seoul about where you gave birth and how you found the experience. I will be choosing a hospital soon. Basically I would like a doctor who can speak English throughout (don't want to leave room for misunderstanding in such a situation!!), some element of control (re. if and when I get epi or other pain relief), and mother-baby skin-to-skin bonding asap after the birth. I also don't want to be kept in for a month afterwards (unless of course that were necessary for some unforeseen reason). I'd be so grateful if you could share your experiences with me.
Thanks a million and happy Friday to all,
DG |

My friend (Canadian gal) had two babies at SoonChunghyang hospital in Hannam dong. Dr. Lee there is very popular with foreigners... I'm going for monthly visits myself, (due in October) and I always see plenty of foriegn faces.
I like her personality too.
I admit, I've been kind of lazy with proper research. My friend (now back in Canada) wasn't the type to do ANYTHING wrong as far as having kids, so I trust her recommendation. I guess she had to battle a bit to not have the automatic episiotomy, but everything else seemed all right.
I'll be asking more questions as I get closer to my due date. I'm not stressing too much, though, because with my family history, I might as well just go for the scheduled c-section. (My mom, all my aunts, and now one cousin ended up in labour for days with no results, and had to have c-sections anyway...) |

Hi Simone
Thanks for your reply. I'm due in October too. I hope you're enjoying your pregnancy as much as I am. Is it your first? Hope you're not suffering too much with nausea, or at least that the worst is over for you.
I will look into the hospital you mention. Thanks for the info. |

I was born in the same hospital room as NHL ice hockey player legend Joe Sakic, nine weeks before him, and lived until age 5 on the same street as him in Burnaby, though he never spoke English until he went to kindergarten (spoke Croat at home), so I doubt he and I ever played together, but then again, kids in the sandlot aren't exactly verbose.
Vancouver General Hospital, May 1st 1969. (me, not Joe)
Oh..... GAVE birth... never mind |

Yep. First. I'll take my three months of mat leave and go back to work.
Right now I'm obsessing about moving closer to work so that I can recoup the 10 hours a week I'm spending commuting... oh, that and gradually putting together a maternity wardrobe that says: I'm still serious - I'm coming back. Don't you DARE think for a second that just because I'm as big as a house, I'm any less serious than I was the day I was hired.
What's wonderful is that I have a hubby who promises that middle of the night baby screams will be his job to handle. I think I need to get it in writing... |

Hi Dangsangirl and Simone
Congratulations. I was in the same situation last year - little one born October 2006.
I used Mokdong University Hospital. The staff were great. Doctors spoke excellent English. Fees were good too (compared to some hospitals which cater to foreigner births). I think 600,000 for normal delivery and 1.3mil for c-section.
If you want any info then feel free to PM me.
Enjoy your pregnancies.

Thanks Korea252, for taking the time to share your experience. And congratulations on the birth of your baby! That hospital would be quitehandy for me actually. With the traffic in Seoul I want a hospital that's pretty close-by. Imagine going into labour during rush hour and having to sit in the car for 2 hours.
Simone, 10 hours sounds like a pretty tiring commute. I hope it's not wearing you out too much. I have a husband making all kinds of promises re. getting up at night too. I find keeping a dictaphone on your person at all times works a treat!
It's so exciting isn't it?!? |
